I had a c-section with Charlie, and I delivered the placenta when Olive came out at the same time, so I never pushed out my placenta.
What was the experience like for you?

Honestly, I was paying so much attention to my daughter that I did even realize it was happening. I only realized it was out when the doctor said he was almost done stitching me up.

Honestly I don't even remember. Nothing like pushing the baby out!!

Ugh it was bad for me. They couldn't get it to come out. My epidural had worn off, they were tugging to get it to come out, pressing down on my abdomen, I had to get a shot in my thigh to keep the bleeding under control. Luckily I had a brand new baby to keep me occupied, but it was still much more unpleasant than I was expecting.

I think the doctor might've told me to push? I probably "pushed" as much as you would to relax the muscles to get a tampon out.

The doctor told me to push again and it just felt like delivering a smaller baby? Haha. I remember feeling so relieved each time.

@lawbee11: I had the same experience minus the epi.
I was so relieved to be done birthing DD that I was pissed and uncomfortable with all the massaging and pushing and tugging! At least before the pain was for a purpose but that just stuck out to me as painful and unnecessary!

It pretty much just squished out. It felt almost soothing compared to that bony baby!

@birdofafeather: the massages always pissed me off too. I would just want to yell, "I am so happy! Why are you doing this to me??"

I was distracted by LO, the doctor asked for a small push and it came out easily

It's like jello coming out! I had awful contractions after baby and before delivering the placenta so it's a huge relief when it's out. I remember my ob showing it to me and we were both like "yeah, that's cool."

I didn't even notice. I had to ask them if I needed to push it out and they were like "oh, it's already out and you're all stitched up!"
Perfect.

#1: I remember a few contractions but I wasn't paying too much attention.
#2: It took forever and they had to assist with the placental delivery. Although I didn't have any pain relief so maybe that's why I remember this one more.

I had the same experience as @MrsHansen82. I didn't push, just felt a warm, jello-y mass pass (gross!). The doctor exclaimed, "Here comes the placenta!" Of course I'm thinking, "Who cares lady, I finally got my baby!"

#1 was rough - I had to push multiple times to get it out and a nurse was "massaging" my abdomen and it hurt so bad! Even the baby on my chest couldn't distract me from that pain! According to my husband, my placenta was the same size as Xander!
#2 - much easier! I think maybe one push and it was out? I hardly remember!

Mine wouldn't come out on its own and definitely not in one piece. Lots of massaging, pushing, all of that. He even just reached in to pull it out and then they still had to massage a lot of clots out. It was super uncomfortable and I bled more than normal but they were able to get it under control before it got too bad. I honestly just wanted them to leave me alone.

Well, I'm a weirdo, I guess because I remember REALLY needing to push my daughter out. And then I was like, I still need to push! And they told me it was my placenta and I pushed it out. But then I was like, But I still need to push! And they said no, I was done, haha.
I just had this crazy feeling of still needing to push. But they said it was just a residual feeling and would go away.

I don't remember at all. I know the OB said I had one of the thickest umbilical cords she had ever seen. Lol.

Both placentas were removed during Blake's C section. I remember it taking forever and my dr had a hard time getting everything out. There was a lot of weird tugging and stretching going on. Sometimes with twins the placentas can fuse, but I can't remember if that's what happened with mine.

I think I blocked it out because I don't remember.

I don't recall! I think once the baby was out, that's all I focused on! I knew it was out because the OB was inspecting it and telling me about it.

I think they t old me to keep pushing and kept pushing hard on my uterus (ouch) and I *think* I felt something slide out like jello and a bunch of liquid.

Nothing that I really recall. Aside from a lil pushing on my stomach from the nurse.

I don't remember doing it... But my husband said he saw it after so it somehow got out.

For both times there was some pushing on my tummy but I also had to push out my placenta. With D2, I had to push and I felt it come out as if I had delivered another baby.
papaya / 10570 posts
It hurt! I felt the most tremendous pressure on what i think was my pubic bone as it squeezed out.... then it plopped out. So weird.
pomegranate / 3904 posts
I think it just kind of fell out? I remember it coming out, but don't remember pushing.
pomegranate / 3375 posts
The placenta was right there ready to come out. I did a tiny push and it came out. No big deal.
pomelo / 5132 posts
I had to get a shot of pitocin in my leg for the bleeding (I was basically hemmoraging). They pushed on my abdomen to get it to come out...it was all super uncomfortable.
nectarine / 2641 posts
I don't remember it at all. I had no idea what was going on down there...too focused on the babe. So it can't have been too bad (though I had an epidural).

@matador84: It was totally like jello! I'd even give it a sound effect of "bloop" - that's what it was like for me.

I remember the massaging and pain from it. I think I pushed once and came out. It looked gross from what I could see.
watermelon / 14467 posts
I remember them massaging my stomach (which HURT), but the actual pushing of the placenta felt weirdly good. Like, it soothed my vag in some way. It was weird.
