I wouldn't consider it my worst ever, but last year DH and I live out of state from family so I made thanksgiving dinner on my own (mind you I'm not a fan of cooking), even made the turkey on my own but I couldn't eat it because since I had to clean it, I was kinda grossed out. Overall, we just missed being with family so that was a bummer.

Definitely last year. DH worked, I went to my parents house, it was the first holiday after my grandma passed and my grandpa was with us, he cried the whole day everyone was quiet and extremely sad.
Oh, and none of my sisters visited, so I was there alone. I did announce I was pregnant though? That was the only cheerful part of the day!

My first year of law school we had finals right after Thanksgiving and first year grades are soooo important, so I had to stay and study and couldn't go home. Starbucks was open for limited hours that day, so I took my books and camped out there all day. All the happy families and friends that came in were greeted by what could only be described as a Professor Snape-ish character. I realized at some point I was giving death stares to everyone who walked in laughing and looking like they were having a real Thanksgiving! Now, it's kind of funny, but I was SOOOO miserable.

Years ago my mom was in the hospital getting a hysterectomy. I spent it in the waiting room with my dad & we had hospital food. Our family brought us left overs the next day when we made a drive home but it just wasnt the same!

I was 19 and my family was out of town. I couldn't go with them because of exams. I was cocktailing at a strip club at the time, so I went into work. I think the only place more depressing than a strip club on Thanksgiving is a strip club at Christmas (also happened that year). After my shift ended I didn't want to be alone so I ended up getting drunk at the bar with one of my bosses.

I remember one where I was about 13 and we were in the process of a road trip to visit family the day before Thanksgiving. Halfway there, a huge landslide happened and covered the interstate in boulders, closing it for days.
We couldn't go any further so we spent the night in a cheap hotel, and the next day plotted a path that would take hours more and not get us to our destination until about 3AM on Friday (we were in Colorado and this interstate had been cut through the mountain. The only way we could get around it was to backtrack and drive all the way around the mountain).
We drove all day and finally found a McDonalds that was open. We're vegetarians, so we got french fires, salads, and apple pies. It was a pretty sad thanksgiving dinner. lol
I spent one other thanksgiving at a truck stop (but they did have a full thanksgiving dinner) and one in an airport in Europe (but I can't remember which one. Munich or Vienna, I think). Those were also pretty sad.

It was my senior year of college and my family was going out to my then-BF (now DH) family for the holiday out of town. It was a big thing getting our families together for the first time. But, instead, my mom got diagnosed with breast cancer and we cancelled all the plans. It was a horrible time.

@Mrs. Blue: This will be the first year in four years that I get to spend Thanksgiving with my family! I always had law school finals right after Thanksgiving and my family goes out of state for Thanksgiving. I'm so excited!

@lawbee11: My 3L year was my first one with my family again and it was fantastic, but the best one was after law school because I didn't have to study at all!!

I don't think I've had a horrible thanksgiving. I know I've had a few migraines..... but even then I take meds and try to have some fun with our traditions (turkey trot, brunch at my mom's, etc).

When I was 9 or 10 I got the flu the day before Thanksgiving. We were out of town visiting family. I didn't get to go to the drive in to see Bugs Life or have Thanksgiving dinner. I was sooo miserable. I remember sleeping in the bathroom. When it was time to go home I still wasn't better. I recovered in time to have some leftovers, which made me happy.

The worst Thanksgiving for me was the first time I went to Texas with my BF (Now DH). Thanksgiving with his family itself wasn't bad but I had got a call from my family saying my mom was having emergancy surgery. I was a attached to my phone all day and calling home constantly. I could just imagine what his family thought until I told them. Looking back not altogether too bad. Although this year may take the cake if all my family shows up at my grandma's house....lets just say Police may be involved.....
