Ears only. They can do whatever they want when they are out of the house and financially independent. I don't think my husband cares about this stuff and he would prob be ok with a nose ring in high school.

I got my nose pierced before my ears. I was not allowed any piercings before I turned 18. I think one piercing in ears only when she asks for it and can care for them.

Ask me in 10 years?

My instinct would be no but then again a piercing isn't permanent so do I really care? If they regret it you take it out and let the hole close.

Now tattoos? no

Most schools won't allow facial piercings, anyways. I'm honestly kind of indifferent. They can be taken out.

I have numerous ear piercings and i had my naval pierced at 19. *shrug* it's part of growing up, provided you're not....13.

I don't think I'll have a policy per se. It would depend what they were asking for. I had piercings in high school so I'm not going to forbid it, and yeah they could always be removed.

My husband would probably be against anything but earrings, but I've had several piercings, including a nose piercing I still have, so they aren't a big deal to me at all. I think that would be a discussion to have once it actually came up. It would probably just depend on the piercing the child is asking for.

I had my lip, nose, and belly button pierced, and now you can hardly even tell (except for my belly button, thanks to pregnancy). I don't think body piercings are a big deal, but I still don't think they're appropriate for minors.

Nothing like gauges that leave permanent changes (beyond the small scar a typical piercing might leave), and it will depend on school policy if we're not homeschooling at that point. But generally we'll be cool with whatever? They'll have to be old/responsible enough to care for them properly, but beyond that, it's their body, and piercings are removable! Tattoos on the other hand... we'll see.

Ears when she is old enough to ask for it and understand that/why it hurts. If she wants her belly button pierced at 16 I'll take her to do that. For other piercings I'll follow the school policy. I don't have a problem with them, but I don't want it to be a constant hassle to cover them. One thing I will discourage is ear gauging. That's much harder to undo than most piercings.

I had 3 piercings in my ears when I was growing up (at 4, 12, and 14 maybe?) and then my belly button at 16 (which I feel like was a big win for my mom. I came home from school one day with a friend who was 18 and we told my mom we wanted to get our belly buttons pierced. She said "great! I'll drive. Lets go." Soooort of made it hard to rebel against her, and made me not interested in trying lol). Nose at 18 and again at 20. So obviously piercings don't bug me

Piercings will be no problem in our house. If they want, we will also get them a tattoo for their 18th birthday as long as its in a place that is easily covered.

We will be pretty open-ended about this stuff. Like some others have mentioned, if they can prove they're responsible enough and have thought it out and can take care of it properly, we won't have a problem.

I don't even care about gauge stuff. We'll look at pictures of them and I will show them what it looks like to have ears surgically repaired after gauging. Then they can make up their own minds about it.

We are a heavily tattooed family. My husband and I have both had random piercings. DH still has his tongue pierced and only took out his earrings because one of them was rejecting. I miss them, they were hot!

It's their body. I remember wanting that freedom and not getting it and I was very resentful and ended up doing it anyway behind my parents backs. I don't want that for my kids. If they do it, I want to know about it so we can discuss it and have it done safely and done WELL. Getting bad tattoos is the shits!

@.twist.: @hotchildinthecity: I agree with both of you. Plus, my husband has two full sleeves and a full back (he was a tattoo artist until he moved here 2 years ago). I'd feel like a hypocrite if we forbade that any future kiddos from doing anything. I just hope that they would do it responsibly and understand the consequences. For example, my husband regrets his hand & finger tattoos he got when he was in his teens. He wants those lasered off more than I want my excess body hair lasered off, ha!

Tattoos after 18 are fine and as long as I see the place - I have ink and I can't preach otherwise, but I waited until I was 18, was open with my parents even though they didn't agree and did my research.

Piercings it depends..and not until after 16 except for ears. I have piercings and got them all after 18 when I was allowed to go on my own.

All ear piercings will be fair game forever but I don't think we will allow facial piercings in HS. And after your basic lobe piercing or two she will need to find a way to pay for them herself.

Actually, the only reason I say that is because most facial piercings aren't allowed at school and I'm not going to advocate her blatantly breaking the rules. If they are allowed, I personally don't care that much. But she will still need to earn the money/pay for it herself.

Do I get to have a policy? By the time they are old enough to go on their own and get pierced I probably won't have much say.

I hid my belly ring from my parents for years til I didn't care what they thought any more, but they would have said no when I got it.
