Keep my kid safe and happy. Wash bottles that she used while watching her. That's about it.

Cleaning, no, unless it was something related to my son, like if he spilled something, I would expect it to be cleaned up...but I totally understand if she couldn't attend to it.

Our sitter prepared and fed breakfast to my son, and did the breakfast dishes. She never had to do his laundry, but I am sure she would at least move the clothes from the washer to the dryer if I had asked.

I used to babysit a lot and I always tried to pick up as we went. I'd usually bring a craft for the kids to do, and they were always excited to make something to show their parents. After the kids went to bed, I'd do the dishes, wipe down the counters, straighten the playroom, etc.

Our current babysitter is great, but she doesn't clean up as much as I would like. I do wish she would put the bath towel and clothes from the day in the hamper (they are usually left of the floor), put dirty dishes in the dishwasher, and put away toys. She sometimes does put away toys... I'm sure it depends on how J is doing and how easily she goes to bed. My main objective is the J is happy and safe, but more cleaning would be a bonus.

@rachiecakes: I agree, in fact, that's the only kind of babysitter I'm willing to hire!

i view babysitters differently from nannies. I would expect a bit more from my nanny, but for occassional babysitting jobs, i just want the baby sitter to have fun with my 2 year old.
