Just as it says.... Wondering if it will be needed when were on the beach on vacation in a few weeks with our 7.5 mo old.

At 6 months old. We started offering it with solids.

I also started offering it with solids but in small amounts so it didn't replace breastmilk. If you're on vacation and your LO is thirsty, I would probably give breastmilk/formula unless it was mealtime. At that age they should still be drinking mainly milk.

LO is just over 6 months now, and I haven't offered water yet. @autumnlove: did you offer water in a sippy?

At about 5 months I offered water with solids.

Like at a year? LO was BF and I didn't see the point. But maybe I'm wrong? I thought that was what kellymom said.

I started at around 7 months, but unlike some kids, mine took a while to take to a straw cup. I just offer him water more for practice with the cup, not to satiate his thirst. I think bm or formula is sufficient.

@jedeve: yeah I'm pretty sure Kellymom says water isn't really necessary if breastfeeding. That's why I limited it to 1oz (and he wasn't even drinking much of that) with meals (which was 1-2x/day at that age)

She's 7m now and I'll probably start soon as she's eating more solids. I think I started about the same time for DD1. Did start solids till 6m with both.
But agree with pp that it's more for practice than to satisfy her thirst. BM or formula should be plenty enough.

Maybe around 9 months in a straw cup for practice. she hardly ever took more than a couple of sips. I never felt it was necessary, but I wanted her to get used to it and her coordination was not great for awhile.

When we started eating solids consistently so around 6/7 months? It helps with the constipation caused by solids.
