Partially because we had kids very late in life so most people I know with kids my same age are much younger, but everyone assumes I am younger than I am. I am 40 and definitely don’t usually get carded anymore but I did a few weeks ago. When I showed woman my license she started laughing because she couldn’t believe that I was born in 1977. I wanted to hug her!

I feel like most people look about the age they are. I know I do and always have--if someone is guessing my age, they always guess younger, but I'm pretty sure most guessers err dramatically on the side of caution! Better to guess far too young than far too old.

I've always been told I look young. I taught high school right out of college and would always always have to tell people- no actually I'm the teacher not a high schooler. I'm 27 now and people still think I'm the teenage nanny watching my two kids. Im also short (5'1") so I wonder how much that contributes

@babypugs: I agree! When asked to guess someone's age, I for one always try to guess around 5 years younger .
Besides, in this generation, everyone looks about 10 years younger than our parents' generation. Maybe we take better care of ourselves? My hairdresser is turning 60 and she looks around 45. So 40 should look 30, and 30 should look 20...etc. We shouldn't flatter ourselves too much lol

You get old and you die, or you don't.
I'm 33 and I'd say I've looked "early thirties" since that time, though some people say I look younger. I have pretty deep forehead wrinkles, which is the big giveaway in my mind. And my tired, beaten down facial expression.

Upon having my daughter, I think. But maybe it was also that I was also 40 (+ now). Once in a while someone seems surprised at my age & say I look younger, but I think they are just being kind, as I feel like I look OLD lately!

@Silva: exactly!
When did 37-41 become an old age anyway?? I am pretty young but I would say I look my age and am ok with continuing to look my age... I do think having kids makes a lot of people look older but it's more the norm so nothing to be ashamed of.

I'd say pretty much once I had children.
A geneticist I saw last year said I looked approximately 25 (I'm 37) however....so since she's a doctor she's obviously correct. Lol!
Honestly, all of my wrinkles are on my forehead, so if I have bangs hiding them (which I do) I probably look younger.

@Ajsmommy: This thread reminded me that I need to stop being so lazy about nightly skincare! Last night I did the full cleanse, tone, face oil and moisturizer before bed and the same in the morning PLUS the all important SPF 30!
I don't mind aging but I'd like to do it gracefully aka I want my skin to look as good as it can!

Y'all I just spent way too much money at Ulta thanks to this thread. Thanks for reminding me that it was probably time to up my skin care game from my current "occasionally remember to wash my makeup off before bed." I'll look at least 5 years younger now, right?

At a school informational meeting, after asking some questions in an open forum, the director said that she was glad some older moms of middle schoolers were there in reference to me. My daughter is four and would be entering the kindy program next year. She was pretty embarrassed when I corrected her. I'm only 33!

@Hypatia: Oh my goodness! Why was that even a topic for discussion?!?!

I had skin cancer at 26 so since then I have been intense about skincare/sunscreen. I’m almost 34 and my skin looks really good, I am still asked for ID regularly. I don’t think I look my age but worrying about how old/young I look is not something that concerns me much yet.

@crazydoglady: It's a small school (grades 1-12 with 72 students) that has classes once a week for homeschoolers, and the informational meeting for prospective students tends to have more parents of younger children, from what I understand. So what she was trying to say, after incorrectly thinking I was the parent of a middle schooler, was that they're happy to have new parents at the meeting with older kids...except I'm not, haha. I am going noticeably gray and not coloring my hair, so I've told myself that's why she assumed I wasn't one of the young moms.

I was the same as OP. It is only since I had a little boy (2nd baby) that I started to look my age. I'm now 36. Sometimes I think I look older. God knows what I'll look like after this baby

I guess it depends if you mean what other people think or what I think. I think that I look my age, but other people sometimes think that I look younger. They are not looking at me close-up in the mirror under bright light or examining my gray hairs. I am getting carded less and less but I am 42, so I guess that's about right. With a toddler, I have stopped doing a lot of maintenance that I just don't have much time for. (I cannot sit in a salon for two hours ever other month to cover my grays...I just can't!) I'm sure that is making me look older.
DH always thinks he looks so old (he's 43), saying that people probably think DS is his grandson. He's being ridiculous. DH is super youthful and has a full head of hair with some salt and pepper in his beard. That's it. He just has it in his head that he's so much older-looking.
We were having this exact conversation (how old we look or don't) at the grocery store recently so DH asked the cashier how old we looked. After much thinking, the cashier said that we both looked 32-33... He was so bashful so I am sure that he went way low.
