Curious! I know this is another thing that each child will do at their own speed. I'd love to hear sibling experiences, too - if they started around the same age or not.

Lo started undressing herself at 2 and dressing herself about 3 months later! We still help her on work days because she is really slow at it!

LO can choose and put on her full set of clothes without me looking at 3 1/2. She has been slowly building up to this since around two. I think she got an article on before two but nothing consistent.

So far, all he does is not fight me to put his arms through the arm holes. The legs are an entirely different battle.
ETA: 1 year.

@808love: same here DD is 3.5 and she picks out her clothes, underwear, and socks and dresses herself.

I was wondering this too. At our two year apt, ped said she needs to do it herself now. All I can think is that I will never leave the house on time again!

@808love: At least he's never topless. Can't say the same for his butt.
@plantains: At TWO? wow. That seems so early. Our 7 & 10 year old's can barely dress themselves! Granted, their mom does almost everything for them still. But WOW. two. We have some work to do at our house.

@plantains: wow, really? If that were the case, my kid (26mo) would be naked all the time. Haha.
@autumnlove: M has successfully gotten her shirt over her head....and stuck. That's as far as she's gotten. One day at naptime, she must have been annoyed with her shirt. We heard this shrieking coming from her room. Went in, shirt over head, still on arms. Straight-jacketed herself.

@plantains: At 2 our Ped wanted he interested in trying to dress herself - not successfully doing it alone

@808love: @Mamaof2: I think 3 1/2 sounds more reasonable for an expectation!!

@.twist.: @mediagirl: thank God for you guys! I was worried that I wasn't being proactive enough getting her to do it! I figured she will do it in her own time so why rush her? It seems crazy to me that a two year old would dress themselves!
Now undressing on the other hand, she has on lock. Especially when I don't want her to. Like in the middle of cross country flight so that she could pull a piece of poop out of her diaper and hand it to her Dad. Amazing

He can take off his shirt at 2 years old. He helps in putting on his shirt, but beyond that, not much. I think in a few months, he'll get faster at it. With him, motor stuff comes later than language. We've met the criteria for language with him at 2.

@mediagirl: @plantains: I am laughing so hard at both your stories. HILARIOUS. Parenthood is so wonderful, isn't it? I'm so looking forward to a story like one of these, myself.

@Mamaof2: @mediagirl: that makes waaay more sense. DH went to the appt and relayed this info to me so it is very possible that he got it wrong. He thinks she should be reading by now so anything is possible with him.

@.twist.: It really is the best. I am very squeamish and I never thought I would be able to laugh so hard over poop. Life is is funny sometimes.

DS is 18m, and "helps". He puts his arms right through the arm holes and he will left his legs one at a time for pants. Nowhere near ready for him trying himself though!

My 23 month old picks out her own clothes but does not dress/take off her clothes herself. She tries to she gets stuck. We are teaching her to pull up and pull down her pants and pull ups.

We're not at this point at all. She doesn't even try to undress herself. She really likes having clothes on. No interest whatsoever. She's 27 months.

My LO has no interest in picking out his own clothes, he doesn't really care if he wears them at all. I do encourage him to undress for bath time or put on his pants in the morning. He still has troubles getting shirts over his head or putting both of his legs in one hole. He's 27 months.

My 4 year old can undress himself on the bottom and put on his bottoms (albeit backwards half the time) He can somewhat take his shirt off and put one on but its a struggle sometimes. Its hard to be patient when we are rushing around but on days we have no where to go I try to let him go as slow as it can be. He can put his sandals on (albeit on the wrong feet some days) so when the fall starts we will have to work on socks and real shoes I guess.

Since 19 months...she's only 20 months...she has been super successful at putting on socks and shoes. She changes her shoes randomly throughout the day other than that. No luck with pants or shirts

She picks her own clothes if I present choices. She tries to dress herself... I wouldn't call it successful. Lol. She normally ends up with a shirt down around her waist like a skirt or something. She's 2.5
