LO used to "talk" a lot when she was around 2-3 months old. Now she does sometimes, but it's not a ton. She makes a lot of noises but they're mostly growls and random screams. Is this leading up to her babbling more? I'm not super worried, I'm just wondering when we can expect her to start "talking" more and moving towards actual words.

Bumping for more replies! I'm interested in this too since my LO is the exact same way! He's 9.5 months now and doesn't really babble/talk either. He just has different screams depending on whether he wants something or is upset.

It started gradually around 3 months and built up more and more, now at 9 months she is a big talker but she does have silent moods when she will be very quiet and attentive

I've always had a loud baby, but more yelling, shrieking, growling and grunting. Around 8 months he started babbling - mamamma, dadada, babababa, emememem. Like he's trying to speak rather than just communicate.

She's 4 months and definitely has quiet periods but every morning she's SO LOUD. She babbles, shrieks, grunts, etc. she even gets so into it that she coughs!

LO is almost 8 months and he loves to babble. He stopped a little when he was teething but he's back to chatting with me on our car rides to and from daycare. Sadly, his prefered word is "dadadadada". No love for mom.

@winniebee: hahaha my LO has taken to screaming while he rocks on all fours.. it's hilarious.. he's like "here i go, here i go" and then he falls and stares at me...

She's always been a big talker, but at 1 year, she's getting more animated with her "talking", like using her hands to emphasize whatever she's babbling about, but still no real words.

For us it was after 10 months. He was working on crawling more before that. Our pediatrician said that they focus on one thing at a time, either physical or verbal. Now at 12 months we have lengthy babble discussions.

@littlek: I'm trying to get mine to say dada more- call your father, not me!! Mama does melt my heart, but it is all. the. time. So we practice dada frequently.

Our guy has been babbling for months. He's 5 months old and babbles so much. His newest thing is to scream and screech. He's definitely testing out his voice. He's always been a vocal, loud baby.
My mom told us to babble back at him so he can hear the sounds himself and start a "conversation" of sorts. We've been doing that from the very beginning. Also, if you want to encourage language, read to your baby and a lot. We've been doing story time part of nap time/bed time for a few months now, so he's always hearing us talk.

Mine is 8 months and hasn't really started babbling yet. To be completely honest, I'm a little concerned but I'm a worrywart. Her communication is limited to this weird gasping noise, vowels, and "bbbbbbbuh" and "mmmmmm". She's also very focused on hands/knees crawling and pulling herself up so I'm hoping she'll start babbling once she masters those skills.

@betsyboop: This is suuuuuuper old but I was wondering about my little guy's lack of babbling, and he does the same thing. And grunts all the time. He also is trying to crawl. Guess he can't multi-task!

@pachamama: I really feel like it comes and goes. I can't remember what the ages were, but my 15 month old had phases where he would talk and babble a lot, and some where he didn't.
He started saying dada, then mama a few months later around 12 months. Now he hardly ever says dada (though he knows him by name). He just says Mama, "ba", screams and grunts! I swear it's like he works on one thing at a time (either communication for physical skills) and he can't multitask.

DS is 6 months and 1 week
He definitely was talking a lot around 3-4 months babbling, whoing and screeches
He seems to be so quite these days, still will do all said above but way less
Normal?! Poor kid I find myself comparing him to his sister way too much!
