DS1 had MSPI and his diapers didn’t start looking bad until 9/10 weeks. He had eczema/reflux right away though.

DS2 had eczema/reflux from day 1, so I cut dairy/soy out (and saw an improvement) before any diaper symptoms showed up.

FWIW, I’m 38 weeks pregnant with DS3 and haven’t eaten dairy/soy since the first of the year, just in case

In hindsight that is probably when my LOs showed the first signs of dairy intolerance too. If you can I would cut out the dairy for at least 2 weeks and feed no formula bottles and see whether it helps. My LO showed signs of improvement very quickly after cutting all dairy.

My son had multiple issues related to MSPI (severe reflux and bloody/mucusy diapers). The reflux issues started immediately from birth, but the diapers got progressively worse and I would say around 3-4 months were actually when they were the worst, so I don't think it's impossible that you might start to see bad diapers at that point. My son's had very small amounts of visible blood, but every diaper was just thick with mucus- I mean it was like bubble gum, you could hold the sides of the diaper together and then pull them apart, like the whole poop was just straight mucus basically. Never seedy BF poop. And they smelled really bad/weird - like vinegar and acid.

edit - with my son, eliminating dairy and soy wasn't enough to fix the issue (I had to eliminate basically everything!), but if I had been eating dairy and soy he would have been 100x worse.

@Jennibenni: no, just dairy. I figured I would start there and that seemed to help so I never did soy. I suppose you could also go the other way- both dairy and soy and then trial the soy back in. Eliminating soy is a lot harder than dairy so I opted just to try for dairy and hope it worked.

I'm not sure on the smell, I'm sure a virus/cold could make it smell just like it could cause it to be runnier or looser. So I would keep an eye on it. If it doesn't improve it's definitely worth looking into as it could be a possible sensitivity. Poop doesn't need to be seedy though, not when you're 10 weeks out. Both of my babies started out with the seedy poops right after my milk came in but once they can digest better the seedy poop went away (and my first was an easy, non fussy, no allergy baby). Our main symptoms were colic and puking, it probably takes the diaper issues longer to show up though. Maybe take the next bad diaper into your ped!

My second was a terrible sleeper except between 4-12 weeks (only time he was a "good" sleeper- woke up 2x a night) and unfortunately nothing has helped that lol. He is still sort of a high needs baby. Once they get to around 3 mo the sleep can go off the rails.

Following -- did anyone see it sooner and if so, did it display differently without the mucus?
