We waited until DS1 had been consistently dry for like...2 months. I would rather spend the money on pull-ups then change sheets bc I’m lazy.

When he wets his overnight pull-up, how wet is it? Could you use (washable) training pants or something as an alternative?

B has been potty trained for almost a year, and is still in pull-ups at night. Like you, he’s dry 9 times out of 10, and actually gets up to use the washroom pretty regularly, probably every other night. I just don’t want to deal with the wet sheets. I do reuse pull-ups, though, which might be gross, but I hate the idea of throwing out dry diapers every day, both financially and environmentally, so we use them for a few days.

@lilyofthewest: definitely reuse dry pull-ups! I would do it for like a week- but maybe I’m gross

I kept my son in pullups for at least a year overnight post night "training", I couldn't be dealing with washing sheets during the work week.

We also reused pullups, maybe 3 nights max?

Dh is disgusted by it but I reuse pull-ups too hahaha

It sounds like he's ready. When we night trained, a peapod mat was a lifesaver. No need to change sheets if there was an accident, just throw the mat in the wash

‍♀️ Another vote for reusing a dry pull-up. I did 2-3 nights max. I figure he gets a bath most nights and he’s just wearing it 7pm - 7am so...how bad can it be?

But also, I was told once they are dry every night for 2 consecutive weeks is when you can try going the night in underwear. But to be safe I did 1 month straight. He did that before he was day trained, actually. So once he was day trained and in underwear, I switched to underwear at night. 4 months in and zero bedtime accidents.

I think it would be shameful NOT to reuse a dry pull up, myself.

I would keep putting him in the pull ups until he was dry consecutively for months.

So I see the appeal of re-using pull ups but I don’t. To me it would be like using the same underwear over and over without washing them. Now if the pull up goes over underwear then it wouldn’t bother me.

@Mamatimes3: I have totally thought about that, and that's what gives me pause. But on the other hand I think little kids aren't as dirty as adults, plus they have baths right before bed, so I use those things to justify it.

I personally only reuse pull ups from naptime at bedtime. I don't reuse an overnight pull up. But my kids are sweaty like DH, and DH has a tendency to get yeast or fungal growths because of it. I don't want to risk having a pull-up create some kind of rash or whatever, although I guess you could spray it with jock itch spray if it was that serious.

You can also double bag your kid's mattress. Mattress protector, sheet, waterproof liner or puppy pad, then another sheet. We did this with our cribs so that if a kid threw up or something at night, we'd just pull the top layer and move on. Just have a spare blanket if case that's an issue.
