Do you mention gifts when you send out invites? Examples... no gifts or do you ask for specific gifts/donations/guidelines, etc?
We never mention gifts with our invites but maybe I will in the future. I usually recommend books or send an Amazon wish list link if anyone asks for ideas when they RSVP. I've seen a range of requests included with invites...no gifts, no plastic toys, books only, specific charitable contributions, contributions for college funds, no boxed gifts, etc!

I have never mentioned it. Not a fan of this practice unless you are doing some sort of charitable donation.

If people ask (which close friends usually text to ask some time before the party), I usually share interests (pretend play, tinkerbell, etc.) or any needs ("we are desperate for socks right now").

No way. I think it's tacky to mention them one way or another! I'm all about word of mouth.

We didn't at LO's first birthday. I felt weird because we invited both our friends and also family, and I really didn't feel like I wanted our friends to buy LO gifts. But I knew our family would buy her gifts regardless of what we said and I felt like our friends would feel weird if I told them not to bring a gift then other people did. In the end we just didn't say anything because I figured they could always just get her some $20 thing and call it a day, NBD. And we don't plan to throw parties every year.

I don't ever mention about gifts on the invites. I will respond to texts or emails asking about her likes and current sizing. I do appreciate when people include gift receipts in case we get duplicate items, we can exchange the items.

People regularly ask for no gifts here since we all have little space. Especially if it's a park party -- you can't drive there so they'd have to carry it all.
With Olive's park party, we requested no gifts, and everyone but one person didn't bring gifts.
