I used to always get them at stride right, but they closed all of the stride rite stores. Now I have no idea where to take my four-year-old to get his feet measured and buy sneakers for back to school. I don't really want to buy them online, since I don't know what will fit.

Do you have a Nordstrom near you? We usually go to SR or Nordstrom, or just buy the next size up online. I've also printed out the little sizing guides that brands have on their websites and have found them to be pretty accurate.

Is Foot Locker only a Canadian chain? They have a sub-store, Foot Locker Kids. But any shoe store will measure a child's foot.

We have an independent shoe store that carries stride rite. I'm planning to go there next time we need shoes. We did receive a guide to measure from SR last week so I am curious to see how my measurements taken from that will compare to the shoe store. And now I will be forced to shop local which is a big thing around here.

I usually buy them on amazon. I like NB a lot for DS because he has wide feet and high arches and they fit him well. I usually just buy a size up from what he's wearing.

Nordstrom's, a few local places that I like, or I order a whole bunch on Zappos and take advantage of the free shipping and returns.

I buy New Balance for DD and check a couple sites for the best deal/color combo. Zappos, shoemall, shoebuy, or Amazon usually.
I just buy the next size up so no need to measure, but most of the sites seem to offer free return shipping and I have ordered multiple sizes of brands I'm not familiar with in the past.
New Balance seems to run very true to size for us.

@travellingbee: I'm in the same boat with my boys. Ordering online sucks imo. I just need a store to measure and have the w and ew in stock, darn it!! We did get him measured at Journey kids, but they didn't carry any wide widths. I've ordered from Zappos, but DS complained that the New Balance wide sneakers were tight.
I'm actually going to Nordstrom on Wed. The baby needs real shoes since his Robeez aren't holding up to the outdoor elements.
I miss Stride Rite already!

@peachykeen: Be careful. A few years ago, I just ordered the next size up with DS1, and then I got him measured and I was off by 1 full size (like I was buying a 7 and he measured an 8!!!). Oops!

I go to the closest Nike outlet, also hit up Oshkosh and gap while I'm there...I only do it once or twice a year though since I tend to spend too much while I'm there!

@travellingbee: our nordstrom rack has stride rite, usually at least 30% off. We don't have a stride rite store here either but our Dillard's carries them. But not for cheap.
So we usually go to Rack with the kids and try on until we find something we like and that seems to fit.
We also went through a stage where there was a stride rite style we loved and bought the next size of the same shoe 3-4 times off Amazon. That worked well since I know the shoe fit before.
But I recommend Nordstrom Rack!

I was successful at Nordstrom. Surprised that Nike fits wide feet so well!
