LO's 4th birthday is coming up and we think he would really enjoy a set of wooden blocks to build with. I had a set growing up of the unfinished wood ones and I'd like to find something similar (very sturdy) that LO can use for a long time.
I've looked around and it seems there are many different varieties out there. If you have a set to recommend, please let me know!

I have the B brand from Target. I love the shapes and colors but the amount of pieces you get for the price is a lot less than other brands.

Uncle goose blocks are incredible!! I think they're sold at target, and tons of places online.

We've played with this Melissa and Doug set at the library before, they seem to be holding up nicely with tons of kids playing with them!

Kapla brand is my absolute favorite!
They're pricey but you can make anything and they're fun for everyone. Babies and adults!
I waited for a sale and got mine 25%off
I worked at a children's bookstore that bought a Kapla set 20 years ago and the kids still play with those same blocks.
If you do a Google image search for Kapla you can see pictures of all amazing things you can build with these blocks.

We have the Melissa and Doug blocks that @catgirl recommended and we love them. Amazon has sales on them sometimes. I got my set for $30.

@catgirl: I agree with these. They're a great set and he can use the different shapes to make bridges, towers, roofs, etc.
