The details:

LO, two and a half, has had mild-to-moderate cold symptoms for close to a month now. The runny nose ebbs and flows, but she has a persistent cough and chest congestion, particularly just before and after sleeping. It was the rattling breathing that prompted us to finally decide to take her in to the pediatrician. DH took her today, and the doctor saw slightly swollen tonsils and a "possible" ear infection brewing. Negative for strep. Recommended fluids and steam for the chest congestion, and prescribed 10 days of amoxicillin.

I am extremely wary of antibiotic over-use, but LO has also never taken them before, so it's not like we've overloaded her system.
