If your child has their ears pierced, what material was the first pair of earrings? I am sensitive and so I wear gold or white gold. Has anyone looked into or tried titanium?

I'm allergic to nickel so we won't do gold. Maybe stainless.

DD1 had hers pierced with gold. Will probably do the same with dd2, although I'll follow this to see what experiences with other metals everyone has had.

I have an allergy to 18k gold ( I know, first world problems) so I wear primarily surgical stainless steel.

@MrsSRS: that's what I've heard to be careful about gold because it can still contain nickel.
@looch: I've heard mixed things about this just being a label.
My other problem is that I think I'm stuck with the Claire's options at the mall. No pediatricians do it here and the only piercing salon I've heard about (he's and RN) won't do it until age 8. Claire's will not let you bring your own. I just don't know how much to trust when they say 14k or stainless or titanium as to what grade it is.

@MrsRoo: glad to hear the gold worked for her! The lady (girl?) at Claire's said they recommend the gold as their best for any general sensitivity.

Both of my girls had their ears done at 1 at Claire's with gold earrings with no issues.

Update, we did 14K gold and they have healed beautifully.
I'm now on the hunt for her first pair of fashion earrings!

@T.H.O.U.: Sorry I missed your original post. We did Claires--their highest gold option with LO---because of I wanted to avoid my own problems with sensitivity and nightmarish piercing past as a kid. She refused to take her off her starts for years because we unintentionally scared her to death with the earring cleaning/preventing infection video on Claire's website. So she finally let me change her earrings for the first time two nights ago when she lost a backing in the bounce house!! Early Christmas present. I loved her Claire's earrings but the new ones are a breath of fresh air. I went with coated 14k for her second pair. We'll see how it goes. So far so good.

@808love: where did you get her second pair from? Does Claire's have 14k ones you can buy not part of the piercing package?

They are piñk cz (Disney Princess) studs. I think they are from Zulily.
