How old were you when you got your ears pierced? How old would you wait for your LO to be?

I was 9 maybe? I'll wait until my daughter is old enough to want it and to take care of it on her own.

12, I think. I'm going to discourage it altogether, but would consider it when they can take care of the piercings by themselves.

I think I was 11. I sneaked out with my older sisters to get my ears pierced without telling our parents. If I had a girl, I would wait until she is old enough to make the decision.

I was in 7th grade when I got mine.
Haven't decided when we're gonna let LO get hers pierced. We'll cross that bridge when she brings it up!

DH wants to do it while LO is still really little. I'm interested to hear if anyone here pierced their LO's ears and how old were they? We met another mom and they did their daughter's at 4 months and she only cried for 2 min. DH just thinks it's so cute and feminine and wants her to have little "diamonds". lol...I think he's pretty cute for thinking that way.
Oh - and I got mine when I was in 4th grade I think.

I was in third grade when I got my ears pierced for the first time and in 8th grade when I got second piercings done.
If I had a daughter I would want her to wait until she was probably 5 or 6 before getting them pierced. I think it would be fun to make a day out of it.

@shopaholic: I was 2 days old when mine were done. I have a boy, but if I had a girl I would probably wait until he was a little older than I was.

I got mine for my first communion. I would like to maybe do hers sooner bc it interfered with sports by that agr

I was 16.
Ill wait till she asks. My mom and grandma never had theirs done because they didn't want them. If lo doesn't want them done, she wont have to have them either.

I was 10. LO got hers done one week before turning one. She handled it wonderfully. The first earring went in with barely a flinch. The second one I think would have been the same. She got really curious and kept trying to see what was happening on the side of her head. There was a brief cry involved with the second one, but it was over in a matter of seconds. I have no regrets almost three months later.

@boogs - LOL! But at least you don't remember the pain!
@mamag - That's great! I think fidgeting would be my biggest concern. Glad it's didn't involve a lot of crying!

I was 7 and had been wanting it for awhile!
I would let my future DD pierce them around 5 yo.

I was 6. I asked for them. I think if i have a daughter one day when she asks for them she can get them. I wouldn't do it before she could ask in case she ended up being a total tomboy and it didn't suit her personality!

I was 4 and asked for them. I was going to wait until my daughter did the same, but here in Mexico they usually do it at birth so I kept an open mind, and we had them do it at the hospital when she was less than three days old. At this age she doesn't touch her ears and we don't even have to clean them or anything. I can't believe I had such a 180 on this but now I think she looks great and everyone knows she's a girl. (My other expat friends who didn't pierce their daughters' ears are constantly being asked about their "sons" even if they're dressed all in pink!)

I was 5. I was going in for a surgery so the doctor pierced my ears at the same time.
We'll wait until DD asks for it. My mom and I both have metal allergies so we we want to wait until DD is old enough to really take care of them and be trusted to wear better jewelry.

i was in fourth grade so 8. but i didn't take care of them and i was allergic so they closed up and i got them repierced at least 2 more times.
not sure when i'll let olive. she'll probably ask one day!

I got them done when I was 4. They closed up and I had them done again at 14.

I was 10. I'd like her to wait until she's at least that age.

I was in grade 7, so 12 I think.
If I have a daughter I will wait until she asks.

I was 6. I will wait until DD asks. But my SIL has been asking me since DD was born (that's 4 years now) when I'm going to get DD's ears pierced. She got my niece's pierced during infancy. I think it's a cultural thing.
coconut / 8430 posts
I asked for years and was never allowed! I still don't have them done but I was thinking of doing it now. I probably will let LO "earn" the privilege starting at 13.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Hmmm not sure yet. Might have it done when her cousin has it done. That would be fun! I was 13 when I had mine done and I wanted them done for YEARS Before that. By the time I got them done, the excitement of it was over because it was just like, "finally".

I started begging for them at 3, but my mom wait me wait a year. So, I was 4.
LO is a boy, so.....not really thinking about it

@Coco Bee: same, same and same! I remember being 6 and begging my parents, they gave me a set of studs for my 7th birthday.

I was a baby, and now I don't even wear earrings...so my LO will be waiting until she has a say in it. 4 or 5 years old if she wants to

I was a baby but don't know how old?!
@shopaholic:
We pierced DD ears at 4 months. Most places ask to see proof of first vaccines.
It was a HUGE shock that she just sort of jumped.. but did not cry AT ALL. I expected to hear her cry the way she does with getting vaccines but nope. Not at all.
She is now 7 months and the piercings are fully healed.
She doesn't even know they are there!

I was 4, and I asked for it to be done. I got really upset at it, but calmed down when my parents got me ice cream, which was right next to the piercing place. I'll keep an open mind about when to do it for any future daughters.
