This topic came up and was posed from another thread. Would you rather go to the dentist or the gynecologist?
Personally, I much prefer the gynecologist. Don't get me wrong, having a doctor rummage around in my nether regions isn't my favorite activity but I would hands down prefer it over the dentist. The poking! The scraping! The drilling! The chit chat when I can't respond! Ugh.

I'll take the Gyno any day! I honestly don't see what the big deal is. The dentist, however...shudder! I've had some bad experiences!

I'd much rather go to the dentist - at the end my teeth feel so smooth and clean! This is assuming it's just a standard check up for both - I'd pick gyno over having any actual dental procedure.

I find gynecologists give the best compliments. I've been told I have "a lovely vagina." I mean, no one had ever complained but to have a professional tell you that is really validating.

Gyno for sure. I hate having somebody else's hands in my mouth (although when I put it that way it sounds like I don't mind having somebody else's hands in my hooha....)

I don't mind either of them, but I voted for the gynecologist. I'm so used to doctors being in my business after years of fertility treatments, pregnancy, and childbirth that going to the gynecologist doesn't phase me at all. I don't really like getting X-rays at the dentist. I always struggle not to puke.

I love my OB so gyno for sure, and its usually 10 minutes in/out vs. an hour at the dentist with them painfully poking my gums.

DH thinks I'm the biggest weirdo. I LOVE going to the dentist! What, an hour where I can just lie back and zone out with all my clothes on? Bliss! Plus nothing beats that feeling of freshly cleaned teeth. Gyno visits are pure torture for me.

@Caly: I totally agree with you. I don't want to go to either, and it sucks being probed, but I know that's like a 10 sec thing and I know what to expect.
At the dentist you never know what bad news you may get!! And my gums always bleed and the whole thing is just never fun for me, at all.

I'm not a fan of the dentist but I can't stand the gyno. It's borderline traumatic every time.

Don't love the gyno, but at least if they find any issues it isn't my fault! As someone with bad teeth, though, going to the dentist is always bad for my self esteem.

@Finfan: lol, and you know they've seen a LOT of vaginas! A doctor actually told me once that there are women who have had surgery to have a vagina look like mine. It was an odd but delightful compliment.

@Mrs. Pickle: I'm totally with you on the IF treatments making it no big deal. So many people have been up there I've lost count. I kinda adopted the attitude of "come one, come all."
@snowjewelz: yaaas! It's so nerve wracking waiting for the results after x-rays, etc. I always feel like I'm waiting on the results of a big exam.

I don't mind either. My OBGYN appointments are usually like 10-15 minutes vs 30+ minutes at the dentist. I prefer the shorter appointments.

Dentist, but solely for the nitrous. Best invention ever. Can we get gynos on board with allowing providing that? I'd totally be cool with Pap smears and stuff if that were the case.

I don't really get what people dislike about the dentist. Is it the fear that they'll find a cavity and you'll have to get a root canal/filling/whatever? The cleaning itself is harmless, to me. Definitely dentist.

@PawPrints: the sound of the drill is like nails on a chalkboard for me. I hate most when they floss and poke along my gum line. HURTS and usually bleeds and my gums are sore for hours after. (It may be my own fault since I don't floss often enough).
Plus I just don't like anyone that close to my face with the bright lights. Ugh. Awful.

@PawPrints: I disagree about the cleaning being harmless. While it's totally my fault because I'm a terrible flosser, the cleaning is miserable. They scrape and dig and my mouth hurts for days after!

OBGYN, but only because I super love my OB. He makes the whole process so chill that I don't really mind, and he's really funny.

@Caly: LOL, it's really not that bad at all. My teeth don't really have a chance to get gunky. My hygenist knows my likes and dislikes when it comes to the cleaning, so it's really relaxing. Plus we never run out of spare toothbrushes for overnight guests!
@Adira: I go so often because I had braces as an adult. What about you?

I do not mind the gynecologist at all. Not even slightly. The dentist on the other hand… I have TMJ so even just having my teeth cleaned, with my mouth propped open, is enough to set my jaw alignment off and screw everything up.

gyno because she is my gp and it's a great time to make sure i'm up to date on everything with my health. after kids, you don't really worry about what happens down there!
dentist is never fun!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: They definitely are, but it's annoying because I've been having to go 4 times a year for the past 7 years. All it seems to be doing is just maintaining the status quo and things aren't getting better.
