I would not be comfortable having any sort of health care work done by a friend.
ETA - I went to a family friend dentist for a long time and he wasn't very good. It made it difficult to leave.

No, I don't think so. I would prefer a doctor who is 1) not someone I socialize outside of medical situations... I just feel like that is awkward that someone I see day-to-day knows my medical history and 2) impartial. I'd be worried about how our social relationship might affect our medical one.

@swedishfish: This is a good point too. It's sort of in the same vein as why I don't do any graphic design work for friends unless I do it for free/as a favour. Business and personal relationships rarely mix well...

No way. I am way too private a person. I would worry that every time I saw them they would be inspecting my teeth or mentally chastising me for drinking a soda.
