Probably not. I would probably just buy another base for her car.

Just because she would only use it 3/4 times a year, doesn't mean that any accident she got in would be less severe. My litmus test on this one is, how would I feel if she got in an accident and LO was injured because of a carseat failure?

I wouldn't. I'd buy a cheap seat or move mine.

At first I was going to say Yes, because it was for occasional use, but I googled why we shouldnt use expired car seats.

They are saying after 10 years the plastic could be compromised. So I would purchase another car seat.

So... I feel like any safety things like that are super conservative, and the car seat is probably completely safe for a while after the expiration. BUT it's not like eating expired yogurt, its a major safety thing. So I would prefer the inconvenience of moving the regular car seat rather than the worry about the expired one.

No. We had to get a different one for baby #2 for this reason. Luckily we once again got a hand me down that was within range.!

Nope. It's like how I decide what rules to follow while pregnant. I consider what's the worst that could happen. Caffeine now and then, not that big of a deal. Listeria from sandwich meat, potentially fatal for the baby. The risk of an expired car seat is too big.

No. My parents wanted to use an expired carseat they had at their place leftover from another grand baby, and I couldn't get them to understand why it was unsafe. The only thing that got through to them, and is true with my insurance company, is that if there was a wreck of any kind, my insurance company can refuse to cover medical costs or replacing car seats.
