Not until I dropped day feeds and only nursed morning and night.

I envy those who did not have AF for 1 year+. Mine returned at 6 mos PP.

6 months pp, but it was like every 2 months until i went back to work at 12.5 months - then i was immediately back on a 28 day cycle.

My son is just over 10 months and no AF yet...
He nurses 4 times during the day and 0-2 times overnight.

Ebfed til past 1. AF came back at 4.5 mths pp. Ds nigjt weaned at 3 mths so I think that added to it.

@MoonMoon: from what I understand and have read it's the nursing between 1 and 5am that have the biggest effect on suppressing fertility (something to do with maintaining prolactin levels I believe?)

It was around 8m when he started eating solids only during the day, so he had daytime weaned.

Almost 5 months now and hasn't nursed overnight for a few months, but still don't have it.

Got mine back when we stopped cosleeping and she started STTN. Right around 13 months.

@bpcmarj: It's good to hear your experience. I feel like by 13 months, I'll be ready for all the changes, transitioning LO to his own bed, and hopefully sttn, even if it means the return of ovulation, lol!
@Kemma: somehow, I think my baby knows this, because he nurses the most during that time!
grapefruit / 4291 posts
@MoonMoon: early morning is generally when your supply is at it's most plentiful! It's also your LO's one way of maintaining supply and making sure they get plenty of food (these babies are clever like that!)

@Kemma: oh absolutely! I definitely don't want to night wean him for that reason, to maintain my supply. I heard on NPR that there's even a theory now that babies night nurse to suppress ovulation in mothers, kind of an evolutionary aid for child spacing!

Two days ago Exactly one week from DD's first birthday.
I guess I've been pretty lucky though because she's been consistently STTN for a few months now, so I was a little surprised it took so long to come back.

7 months and nothing yet! LO still eats 2-3 times a night though. I tell myself that is keeping Aunt Flo away to make me feel better.

Never got AF but got pregnant around 6 months post partum so yeah... Oy.

I was searching this topic and found this thread that I started, so I thought I'd do an update, haha!
My period finally came back at 21.5 months, when we had decreased night feedings to a great degree, though we still do nurse at night. I've had 4 cycles since then, crazy irregular and somewhat heavier than I was used to, but I'm not complaining. 30 months off was awesome!
Anyone else have an update?

Right around 10 months but I think it was due to my dropping the 10 PM pumping session I was doing to stock up on freezer milk. My little guy stopped nursing during the night around 2 months.

DS - 9 on the pp, and he was up several times a night until 18 months old
DD - 7 months, she is usually only up 1 time a night.

Anyone have experience BFing and an IUD? I know periods can be lighter but all I've had is some rand one spotting at 5.5 months PP and wondering if this is my period cramps coming back.

I EBFd for 13 months, period back at 11 months. My son had been sleeping through the night for ages though.

So jealous of most of you! Mine came back at 12 weeks even though we were EBF and every 2-2.5 hours 'round the clock because he was a preemie.

With my first I got pregnant again when he was 11 months so I guess it would've been 11-12 months. My second is 14 months and nurses a few times a day and overnight and it still hasn't returned.

@turquoisemama: I was wondering the same thing! I am hoping AF will just stay away. We're at 5 months right now.

With DD, period came back around 5 months.
With DS, period came back around 9 months.
Both EBF with pumping while at work.
