What are some good toys for 1 year olds? Even better if it will keep DD's attention for more than 10 seconds.

A learning table was a big hit, granted it was loud, plastic and took up a ton of room, but my son loved it for a long time.

My mom bought DD a baby doll for her first birthday and I have been really surprised by how she has taken to it. She drags it around everywhere and feeds it with the little baby bottle it came with, and imitates all kinds of things that we do with her (playing peek a boo, wiping her nose, etc).
She also thoroughly enjoys balls of all shapes and sizes. Peek-a-boo and touch-and-feel board books are also huge hits.
Oh also cars! She loves pushing cars around. And she spends a lot of time playing with the megablocks (like Duplos) - she almost has the hang of getting them to lock together, and can stay entertained for several minutes just in the attempt.

Play kitchen for us. He got it for his first birthday and he's still obsessed (21 months). It was also easy to be able to tell family to just get him accessories (food, etc) for his toy kitchen.
We got Megabloks too, but he is just now getting into them. He also got a push car that he loves, but that's not exactly independent play. We boxed up the learning table about 16 mos, so I wouldn't say that toy necessarily has staying power, but it did entertain for a long time.

@PawPrints: DH would be on board with those because they're small! We took DD into the American Girl store when we were at the Mall of America and handed her a display doll. She was all giddy over it! She hasn't really gotten into balls yet, despite trying to teach her catch. Megablocks would be fun too!

Djeco Topanifarm (12 pc) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DUGAQE6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_fe6jxbM39CDV1
Dd1 got it for her first birthday and has used it almost every day since (she's 2.5). I like that it encourages imaginative play so it grows with her.

@LindsayInNY: That is sweet! This is the one my mom bought for DD: http://www.adoradolls.com/playtimetm-baby-garden-party.html

This horribly annoying toy was by far her favorite at that age:

Also she loved her learning table (I'd link but it seems to be discontinued).
We also bought her a play kitchen at that age, but she didn't get into it until maybe 6 months later.

DD is almost 17 month.. I took away the activity table but she still asks for it so I took it back out! Obsessed!
She likes the play kitchen too. Not so much to pretend to cook, but she especially loves taking things in & out of the fridge and oven/cabinets!
She loves this plastic tub of animals since she can identify most of them. Oh and a simple rubber ball!

I just got my niece a water table for her 1st birthday. My DD loved her water table the summer after she turned 1!

@abbydabbydoodlebug: Given DD's latest obsession with the dog's bowl, I'm sure she'd love a water table. Unfortunately that's the downside to apartment living...

Do you have a zany zoo? My 13 month old DD loves it. She also loves her FP little people barn and FP little people princess stable.

I have a bunch of stuffed animals in a basket and she likes to take each one out, give them a hug, bite their nose and repeat until they are all over my living room. Keeps her entertained for awhile though

Our friends lent us their play kitchen, and it has been amazing! It's perfect for him and can sometimes occupy him for a while!

My 11.5 spends hours playing with the Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Home. We have the older model from my son, but this appears to be the "current" version: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Laugh-Learn-Smart-Stages/dp/B00N5YE1Y4
Also the play kitchen and food are big hits.

@ocean81: No - what's a zany zoo?
@RonjaL7: OMG DH would *hate* that, LOL!
@SeptMomma12: Friends of ours had one for their son and daycare has one. I'm just worried she won't like it for some reason!

Totally following!!
One thing my LO loves are music toys (drums, maracas, bells) that she plays with at the baby sitters house!
I want to buy her a play kitchen, but I have no idea where to keep it! Our living room is already packed with her toys...

Cords, cord outlets, sharp objects, dust bunnies, remote controls, iphones, crinkly wrappers.
But, seriously, that's all my 1 year old wanted to play with forever haha! I would say things that actually held his interest - learning cube, fisher price ltitle people (the zoo, the farm), and he liked blocks and the play kitchen.

@LindsayInNY: Just LOL'ing at the dog bowl comment. My DD has also found the dog bowls. She crawls around with the empty food bowl, and just this morning before I was taking her to the babysitter, stuck her whole arm in the dog water, her entire sleeve and front of her shirt was soaked....

@winniebee: I'll add to the list, dog chew toys, paper, shoes, phones.....hahah this is great!

@winniebee: HAHAHA. Can we add knives in the dishwasher to this list? The dog's bowl and bones (so gross)... Empty water bottles and crinkly items EXCEPT for the crinkly toys she owns.
@MrsBrewer: She plays in the water!! Such a mess.

@LindsayInNY: yes keep em coming. Stove knobs, microwave buttons, the paper shredder, the baby gate, ice from the freezer, dirty shoes!

@winniebee: The knob thing on the bottom of the toilet is her latest (of many) - it's the half circle thing that covers a screw. SO ANNOYING.

@LindsayInNY: DS LOVES all the learning tables. I think those are a good choice.
