i saw this "home of the week" and i was dying laughing, especially in light of the small home discussion and other conversations on here about housing prices.
so for a cool $1.5 million and an additional $1800/month in HOA fees (for space rental, private beach access, tennis courts, etc), you can live in this pretty sweet 2 bed/2 bath upgraded mobile home in malibu. any takers?

While I need more space than a mobile home, I must say that is the most beautiful mobile home I've ever seen!
ETA: also, I don't have that kind of money!

@Truth Bombs: well, it's a mobile home park, so i'm assuming that's for the space rental, which doesn't seem too off base considering it's beach access in malibu. i found another nice one for $800K, but the HOAs for that spot are $2400/mo!!!!!!
@Mrs.KMM: hey, it's 1540 sq ft! so not really a tiny house at all.

@birdofafeather: I get that. But the home doesn't look like it's actually mobile! So it's not like you could stop paying the fee and move it somewhere cheaper!

If it's a "mobile home" they may be able to avoid paying real estate taxes. So that would make up for a good chunk of the HOA dues.

@Truth Bombs: we lived down by the SD coast previously and most of the "mobile home" parks by us were like that! we actually looked at buying one (not in the millions!!) and it's the same story there too. it's not common to pick up and move the home ($$$) but people did buy new ones and rent a spot there.
@BadgerMom: ah! that makes a lot of sense as i read that the median SFH in malibu was in the $3-4 million range. so that's significant!!

A yoga teacher I had a few years back lived in this mobile home neighborhood and all of the houses are REALLY nice!

@birdofafeather: Oh I know. I totally get it. I would just be pissed on principle that I have to pay for the spot in the value of the home and then keep paying for it over and over again in the rental of the space. If I'm gonna spend 1.5mm I don't want to spend any more!

I definitely wouldn't consider these tiny or even small homes, all of them are bigger than our apartment!
I've definitely seen some gorgeous remodeled mobile homes and they're pretty incredible! I would definitely consider it (though I'd consider buying my own lot instead)

As a Southern California resident, I actually think the space rent was lower than I expected for that community. I've known people who have paid similar amounts (slightly lower) and are not on the beach or even close. Although I'm sure the mobile homes cost a lot less too in the other areas and were no where near $1m.

I paid almost that much in "maintenance" for my 800 sq ft NYC apartment and it didn't have any features, not even a doorman!

That's one nice mobile home, but for $1.5M plus $1,800/month HOA fees? Ouch! But the offered amenities are nice... Guess if you got the money then hey! Go you!
