I'm on cycle 7. I didn't think it would take this long either. When I was on the pill I was always so worried when I took one late and freaked out if I missed one. lol Well....here we are now, no protection and 7 tries later.... no bfp.

i'm on cycle 7, and praying that this is the last one. i just never in a million years thought it would take this long (not even that 7 months is that long, but hs health class would have you believe that if you think about sex without protection you'll get pregnant haha)
sending healthy baby thoughts your way ladies

Cycle 11 here. Great idea for a thread. I'm glad that my doctor recommended fertility testing while I was in cycle 9 even though I'm under 30. I couldn't imagine still not knowing what was going on. I'm really hoping to get pregnant in June, July, or August so I can have a spring baby.
Baby dust to all!!!

Good luck, ladies! It took us 8 months total (w/ one miscarriage in there). It felt like FOREVER and was an emotional road. Wishing you all the best!

Just starting the TWW for cycle 9. Instead of being surprised that I'm not pregnant (like every month in the beginning), I think I will be more shocked if/when I do end up pregnant.

it took us exactly two years to get pregnant with charlie, though we did have 2 miscarriages along the way. it definitely felt like forever because so many friends had babies during that time. but now that charlie is here, i can't imagine a different journey.
i hope it happens for everyone very, very soon!

@winniebee: @Mrs. Bee: Thanks for the support ladies!
Technically we weren't going to start trying until June this year, but that all went out the window on our honeymoon in October. If we're not pregnant by June we'll look into fertility testing.

Yup - cycle 7 here. I am not one to get lucky so I have a feeling this will be a long haul. I thought I jinxed myself by looking at baby boards and stuff for baby so I tried to avoid them the past couple of months but now, I think "eh, screw it- it's not going to matter one way or the other." Like greenthumb said, I will also be shocked if it happens.

We're on cycle 14. I'm sort of in denial about it though, so now I've decided that we weren't really "trying" hard enough all that time so some of the early months didn't count. That sounds good, right? I've talked to the midwife who does my regular gyn care and she knows it's been a while but isn't pushing us to take further steps until we feel ready for that. My husband and I have decided, though, that we're only going to wait another 2 cycles and then we're going to get some tests run.
I'm actually surprised that it has taken me this long to take things to the next step. I am very pro-fertility treatment, if that's what it takes for us (for example - I know some people who would not ever do IVF, but we absolutely would if we had to!), but I am surprised at my own emotional reaction at the idea of seeking fertility treatment. I guess it just makes me feel "broken" and I never expected that. My parents had two surprise babies (13 months apart!) when they were very young and two more after that and my whole life my mom's talked about how incredibly fertile she is. So I just didn't realize how hard it could be and what an emotional toll it takes.

I think I'm going to start charting again. My Gyn. told me that I didn't need to chart to just look for EWCM. She also told me that the next time I see her, I will be pregnant. Yeah, she was wrong. My exam is due soon.

I'll join! I've been TTC for 14 months. Just started cycle 14 last week. We're waiting on DH's fertility testing results; mine have all checked out fine. The next step for us is going back to the reproductive endocrinologist and seeing what meds/procedures might help.

Ok, I'm out of my funk from being sad at my last BFN and I'm ready for the next cycle. My annual is due this month, so I'm going to schedule an appt and ask her some questions. Maybe see if she will run some simple tests.
Anyone get a sperm analysis done? I'm going to ask the Dr where the DH can get one done. I've heard fertility centers will do it but I'm wondering if a doctor's office can do it. I don't know if my insurance will cover it. If not, I'm willing to pay out of pocket for it. Anyone know how much it cost?
Ugh, I talked to my brother today... to wish him 'happy easter' and all. He's been asking me when 'we are going pop one out' for about a year now. (He had his first child about a 1.5 years ago and his wife/my SIL is due with their second in June, so we've always thought it was cool if we had children around the same time. So yeah, we talk about it. ) Well, now that I'm on my 6th month, it's not working out that way. Ugh! Anyway, today he asks me again if I'm pregnant yet. He already knows that we are trying. Months ago, I've given him the impression that we 'could' be pregnant soon.
Well, anyway, back today. I love my brother and all but this is what he said. 'Well, maybe you aren't doing it, right?' Ouch, bro! Ouch!
It's okay. I know my brother didn't mean it to sound bad. I think if it came from someone I didn't like, I would be more hurt.
I'm a little early but Happy Easter or Passover!

We just went for DH's sperm analysis - it didn't cost us anything (here in Canada...), but the process was a lengthy one. He had to see his doctor for the requisition, drive to the fertility clinic to pick up the kit (45 minutes away) and then drive to the hospital to drop the "specimen" off. It might work differently in a bigger city, but for us, that's how it worked. STILL waiting on results.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@bluestripedbee My husband's SA cost us $150 out of pocket and then we had to file a claim to get reimbursed. My gyno wrote him a referral and sent us to a fertility clinic to have the test done. She didn't recommend doing it at home and then delivering the semen because there was a greater chance of error. After we got the results back she referred my husband to a urologist where they required their own test plus having his blood drawn to check his hormone levels. That cost is another $200.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@redsmarties: Oh, yeah. I think it's different in the US. So how long have you been waiting for the results.
@Leialou: Cool! Thanks for that info. I actually asked my husband if he has a 'man doctor' similar to our 'woman dr', and he said they don't have special needs like that. I even asked him about a urologist. He said that he thinks he needs to go to his PCP.
As for the cost, that's not so bad. I wonder if we can skip the fertilty center and him go right to the urologist since we don't need referrals with our insurance. Also, the nearest fertility center is in town and a urologist might be more local.

It's been 18 months since we first started trying but the actual number of cycles is less than that since I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks.

A friend of mine told me about a test you can purchase on Amazon (could be this one: http://www.amazon.com/Fairhaven-Health-SpermCheck-Fertility/dp/B0046W2W68/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333931412&sr=8-1) might be worth a try, since its relatively inexpensive, and you get results right away?

Does anyone have known fertility issues? My husband and I were both tested and he had a very low sperm count plus low motility and morphology. He was diagnosed with varicoceles and had surgery six weeks ago. He goes in for another SA in mid June to see if the surgery corrected the problem. If it didn't then we will move on to IUI. We are saving up just in case it comes to
that.

@bluestripedbee, yeah men don't have to see a special doctor until they hit 40. So unfair. Although I think I prefer a pap smear to a prostate exam!

My DH had a SA done because lab work (done for another health reason) showed low testosterone. SA results showed good count, pretty good motility, but low morphology. Anyone have a similar situation as that?
In terms of cost, we haven't had to pay more than the typical co-pay ($25) because right now it's being treated as a hormonal issue (not infertility yet).

CD 4 of cycle 7 here. Definitely didn't think it would take this long. With each cycle that passes I get more and more frustrated.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@eastcoaster my husband didn't have low testosterone, but aren't there a lot of treatments for it? As far as morphology goes my husband's was really low. His doctor said not to worry about that number, that motility and the actual count were more important. He said that the shape of the sperm and whether or not it was deformed would have no negative effects on a baby.

@Leialou: I have a diagnosed fertility issue. We are right in the middle of cycle 9. Never ever thought it would take this long. As someone said previously, health class really did make it seem like you would get pregnant as soon as you stopped using protection! We started trying a couple months before our wedding, and then I was diagnosed with PCOS right before the wedding (my cycles started becoming irregular).
At this point, DH just had a SA last week, and everything with him was GREAT. We were very very happy about that, but now I really have to face the fact that I am the broken one (or at least that's how I feel).
I have been ovulating though, so that's a positive. I have really tried to remain positive, but I have to admit, each cycle is just a little harder than the one before.
@bluestriped bee: We haven't gotten a bill for DH's SA yet. I am not sure if insurance is going to cover it or not (I'll let you know). DH has a urologist so we went through his office (he did tell us that if anything was off in his sample that he would send us to a fertility clinic), and DH brought his sample to the lab at the local hospital. We had our results the same day which was really quick.

We were NTNT from November 2010 to March 2011. We've been TTC ever since so we are over a year. I'm seeing an RE now and I'm in the middle of an IUI cycle.

@Leialou: Thanks for your information! I was heartbroken when we found out about the low morphology. But the dr feels it is possible to conceive w/o intervention, might just take longer. But if we're not PG by a certain point (not sure when yet) he may start to suggest other things.
Also, the dr hasn't started treating the lot Testosterone yet b/c he's not having any "symptoms" of lot T yet. The dr feels that treating it could lower his sperm count (i think) so he's holding off for now.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@eastcoaster I know what you mean about heartbroken. When my husband was diagnosed I thought the only way we would be able to conceive was IVF along with ICSI. But now there is a chance we can conceive naturally. My husband was also really bummed out. It was hard because I had no idea what to say or do to make him feel better.

@Leialou: We're in the same boat :(. We're just trying to stay positive and do what we can to "beef up" his sperm: no smoking, very little drinking, eating healthy, exercise, etc. Prayers for you and us!
ETA: PS- our dr. told us to BD every-other day (not everyday).

We are on CD13 of Cycle 13. I went in for my annual last week and got referrals for an SA & HSG. So, if AF shows in 2 weeks we'll move on to the tests. My doctor is amazing and spent about 40 minutes discussing options with me which was really helpful. It looks like we'll start with Clomid in May and move on from there depending on the results of our tests.
Baby dust to everyone on this thread. It has been such an emotionally draining experience and I hope that we all get our BFPs soon!!

So we are in the middle of cycle #9. And we finally got more information about our initial fertility testing yesterday. I do have a "questionable" blockage in my right tube and DH had great numbers for everything other than morphology (low). So we are definitely meeting with the RE in a couple of weeks. What a frustrating process. Who knew it would be so complicated and emotionally draining to start a family!

@PBandBaseball: So what kind of doctor are they sending your SO for the SA? Urologist, PCP or fertility center?
pear / 1986 posts
@bluestriped bee: My GYN actually put in the order for my DH to do the SA at a nearby fertility clinic after we had a consultation. He just dropped off his sample and we got the results through my doctor's office.
clementine / 861 posts
@bluestriped bee: They are sending him to a fertility center. We have an appointment on May 11 with my doctor to go over the results.
My doctor told us that while you can make arrangements to "collect the sample" at home and bring it to the fertility center, it is more accurate to just do everything there.

As for me... I see the dr tomorrow for my annual and tomorrow starts my fertile period! I'm excited but yet a little afraid that this might not be my month.

I'm ok. 5 DPO on cycle 13 but I was sick last week, so I don't have a good feeling about this month. It's been tough. I saw a mom with a newborn at Target yesterday & started tearing up. Hopefully we will all get our BFPs soon!! How are you doing @bluestriped bee?
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@PBandBaseball: I know I'm a young-on considering I'm just on my 6th cycle but I'm afraid the doctor is going to say I'm overreacting and that I should come back to her when I've been trying for a year. I am going to ask to dr where the DH should go to get a SA done.
clementine / 861 posts
@bluestriped bee: Hopefully your doctor will be understanding that you just want to be aware of any possible issues. Hopefully she'll be willing to listen to your concerns and work on your timeline. I wish that I hadn't waited a year to start the testing process.
apricot / 460 posts
@eastcoaster: We had similar results. His morph was 6% but our doctor told us that was enough to get PG on our own. His total # and motility was great though.
We are on our 9th cycle (just about done with the TWW). It is our first month on Clomid.
Are all/any of you charting?
