There was always something to do. Give me advil, check my temp, check my blood pressure, nurse the baby, lactation consultant, my OB, a million different things. Yes, just a bit annoying!

Yes! Not only that, they kept waking the baby up. A nurse came in at 3AM to WEIGH E after she had finally fallen asleep. We were so peeved. And there was an inter-room intercom system that the nurses would constantly use to page each other, even in the middle of the night. So while you were trying to rest, a loud voice would beep in!

No, no one came into my room after all the initial test and everything else was done. I actually could have gone home a few hours after I gave birth but my mom came from California to Idaho to see us and they offered to let us stay the night at the birthing center to visit and all that so she didn't have to get a hotel just for the one night. I didn't see any of them til the next morning.

I know at our hospital, there are certain times we are supposed to do certain things (vitals, meds passed, physical assessments, IV checks, fundus checks, etc.) and they are pretty strict about them being on time. Like "every 2 hours" or "every 4 hours", but if you have a good nurse, they will try and group these things together to minimize waking you up as much as possible. I know some nurses don't always think that way, but some of it is unavoidable. I always joke with my patients about how you can't get any rest in the hospital. Sad but true.

Well, isn't this a hospital thing? My husband goes to the hospital about 3 times a year for his asthma and he always complains that they wake him up all the time.

I didn't sleep a wink while I was at the hospital. I think I was high off of new mommy drugs. It was annoying how nurses and doctors kept coming into my room. I kept the baby with me, we literally had someone coming in every 2 hours.

Huh. Maybe I'm the odd gal out? I didn't get woken up at night. I delivered at 5pm, and fell asleep around 11pm, and woke up at 6am totally confused with life. Though we also told them we planned to bottle feed (which I did until my milk came in) so they let me sleep while they fed the baby. Maybe they drugged me up while I wasn't looking and just don't remember them waking me up? I dunno.

@mrbee your overprotectiveness is admirable and your standpoint on getting as much sleep as possible those first few nights is very valid. 

unfortunately from a medical point of view, safety trumps sleep in the hospital. 

to answer your ? in the OP, VBAC mamas most certainly should be checked at least once overnight for vitals and a fundal check (making sure the uterus is firm, not boggy -- sign of hemmorhage risk). Your nurse should have told you beforehand though. I agree that that would have been the courteous thing for him/her to do. sorry... you could've also just had a scatterbrained nurse, or a newb nurse who didn't know how to prioritize.
