I have had two unmedicated natural births with anterior placentas and never had any back labor. Just two quick and easy births...

I had an anterior placenta last pregnancy and a very long unmedicated labor since dd was sunny side up. Back labor was absolutely awful. But I was never told it had anything to do with placenta placement.

I had an anterior placenta with my son, and I apparently have one this time around too, so I can't speak about the difference, but I do know it was a non-issue with my son's labor.

hm, i had an anterior the first time, but not the second, and didn't notice a huge difference. i mean, labor hurt like a mother both times, but i can't say that the first time was worse.

I had anterior with DD1 but not DD2. My first labor was less painful, though it wasn't as quick (but I don't know that either difference was due to placenta placement).

I had an anterior with my first and I have it again with my second. I've only given birth once, but I did have a lot of back labor. I ended up with a c section, but it had to do with my son's heart rate more than anything. I didn't have any complications from it during my c section.

I have also had my placenta attach/grow just barely too close to my cervix both times now. Last time I had an extra ultrasound and it moved/resolved itself. I'm assuming it will move this time too, but I go back to check in 6 weeks.

I had an anterior placenta. I heard that it can increase your odds of back labor -- something about baby liking to face the placenta regardless of where it is -- but I don't think I experienced back labor. My labor was 23 hours long. By 17 hours I was feeling very stalled out and I was at 9.5. I got and epidural and it still took me 6 hours plus some pitocin to deliver the baby. But I think that was due to my anxiety to be honest. Medical stuff freaks me out and I was terrified of needing a scary intervention.

So, don't get too caught up in the statistics because they are just that: odds. Ultimately you will either have back labor or not, and it can happen with or without an anterior placenta. You should prepare for the possibility in case it does, and hopefully/probably it won't happen.
