DD is out trick or treating with DH and I'm at home on candy duty.
Even though it's pouring I've had to refill the bowl already.
I never thought about the logistics of this before and am kind of bummed to be missing her first trick or treat.
Any one else at home handing out candy?

I always thought once you had a LO you turned off the porch light and didn't hand out candy. I'm sorry you didn't get to go.

Yep. We skipped trick or treating this year because DH is out of town.
Every time we get a trick or treater, B thinks he also should get a piece of candy. After many tears, he has now resorted to running up behind me and shutting the door on the trick or treaters.

R has HFM so we are both on duty. Only had two batches of kids, maybe 10 total.

Our small community decreed trick or treating was right after school at 2:30 early dismissal. My husband took our daughter trick or teating and I did Candy duty.

@oliviaoblivia: aw that sucks. I didn't think about those logistics either since we don't get trick or treaters at our apt. Not sure what we will do in the future. Could your DH have done one block then come back and switched with you?
Or leave a note with a bowl of candy stating "help yourself - please take one only as there is a clear watching you!"

If by candy duty you mean sitting by the door eating as many starburst as I can while the doorbell doesn't ring? Yes, thats me!

@californiadreams: we switched halfway. Girlfriend was a dedicated trick or treater.
I always wonder about the unmonitored candy bowl.
We wanted someone home since it's our first year on the street and haven't met all the neighbors yet.

Despite it being cold and rainy, we had over 50 kids! I didn't expect that many. We still had way too much candy so I was giving out handfuls to make sure I don't eat it all myself...

We had about 20 kids, and 3 Elsas! My parents had 264 kids and over 20 Elsas!! Good thing they don't know about the Elsa drinking game LOL

We had about 40 kids probably. They were all done before 7 pm when it started snowing. Went through about 2/3 of the candy I bought.
I made DH the designated candy person. I had him park his wheelchair by the door so he could answer it. He was so cute and friendly with the kiddos. He's gonna be a great Dad

My parents came over to see LO dressed up so we all split time between candy duty and LO. She's too young to trick-or-treat but she had fun looking at the costumes. My parents don't get trick-or-treaters so they enjoyed seeing the costumes too.

We left the unattended bowl with a note saying to please share and only take 2. It was empty! I would guess almost half was gone before we even left. We saw plenty of big kids roaming the 'hood. I'm surprised how many full sized candy bars LO got in our 'hood. She did awesome this year.

There are very few kids who come ToTing on our street. Most people seem to take their kids to the subdivisions for ToTing these days around here.

We've probably had at least 80 kids by this point. I think the fact that it's a Friday night is helping keep a steady flow of them...I'm glad I bought enough candy to have some leftovers!

We probably had around 200 kids tonight! We didn't even have 100 last year. Geez. I thought it was never going to end! I went through a Sam's Club bag of chocolate, a 50ish count bag of smarties, and 1/2way through huge Sam's bag of DumDums suckers that I bought just in case we were inundated. I think I only counted 10 Elsa costumes though. I had a lot of ninja turtles, cops, and doctor/nurses/surgeons (a lot of our neighborhood is in the medical field though). I'm really glad I bought those suckers! I had fun though!

Awww that is so nice that you wanted to meet the neighbors. We know from pre-kids that our section doesn't get a lot of trick or treaters so we all go out. Then we are home by around 7 to hand out candy.

We handed out candy at our friends' place and used a counter app to keep track of how many kids there were. We had 743! It was unbelievable. And that was all before we closed up shop just before eight to have dinner!

We left a bowl of candy out and took our girls trick or treating together. No way I was missing out on that!
