LO is still pretty young, but recently, I asked DH what his views were on trying to instill a sense of charity/volunteerism in LO when the time comes. He said he hadn't planned on it and that the most important thing he wanted to do was teach LO to be a productive member of society, that a good paying job and the taxes that are deducted for social security and other programs is what is helpful. Hmmm, I had never thought of it that way. Of course, we wouldn't discourage charity and volunteering if that was what they wanted to do, but perhaps it's not something we will actively emphasize? Not sure. What do you think?
