Lol this is funny but it isn't. I had my glucose test today, and it was delicious. I loved it. Because I work a clinic I feel I get short-changed on information that they would disclose fully to normal patients. All they told me in preparation for my glucose test was don't drink anything sugary before the test.

They gave me the juice, I drank it, and I waited a half an hour before I'm like, "Seriously, I have to eat something." So what does dumb cluck here do but eat a bowl of cereal. AND then they decided to come draw blood so you can guess what happened...I failed, lol.

So in a few days I have to do the test again and not eat afterwards until they draw my blood so my blood draw and test today was done for nothing. Between this and falling this morning I am ready to go home and nap. What poop.

@megz06: oh my gosh! That is sorta funny, but ridiculous at the same time. I hope you pass later this week!

I had my 28 week appointment today. After my little jaunt to Labor and Delivery last night, I couldn't decide if I should still go in, but I did. My hip has been killing me, and the resident who was shadowing my doctor did some crazy muscle massage on it that made it feel amazing. I head in to PT tonight, which I will hope more.

    Next appointment is 2/3

    my next appointments are:

    jan 31 - 30 week prenatal
    feb 7 - growth scan
    feb 14 - BPP & NST
    feb 14 - 32 week prenatal
    feb 21 - BPP & NST
    feb 28 - 34 week prenatal
    mar 14 - 36 week prenatal

so many appointments! i was pre-diabetic (type 1) before conceiving, hence the BPP & NSTs to be on the safe side. i guess from here on out it's baby baby baby. we're also starting our holistic birth consultations (aiming to go med-free), birthing classes and breastfeeding classes soon. my calendar is so booked, it's a little overwhelming and i'm sensing "the end" of my life as i know it.

our scan last friday at 28 weeks went well. baby girl was 2lbs, 8 ounces with a strong heartbeat and still covering her face on every 3D picture. what a shy girl!

GOOD LUCK to all the mamas on this board with your upcoming appointments, scans, tests, etc. we're nearing the end...!

@SupernovaJ: Ok...your schedule makes me feel a little scared that we are going to be giving birth SOON! I know I told DH, "We only have 12 weeks...you have concerts scheduled out that far already!" It's SO crazy. Good luck with all those appointments!

So I redid my glucose test today. They never actually called this time and told me I failed, but I am looking in my chart (perks of working at a clinic) and I see my glucose level is higher than the range. The range drops off at 130 and I ended up at 156. I assume they are waiting until my appt. on Monday to address it. Not like I can't call my nurse and ask, but I am quite bummed. I didn't even eat cereal during my fasting!!

@megz06: did you find out anything about the glucose test today?

  13. jhd

    coconut / 8079 posts

I had a regular appt today. I just love hearing baby's heartbeat! My doctor was happy with everything and I go back again in four weeks on 2/24.

The only bad thing is I should have had my glucose test this week and she forgot to get that organized last visit. I asked her if I should try to get it done this week and she said not to stress about it and just do it in two weeks when I come back for my next ultrasound. Just hoping that by waiting I don't end up failing!!

@jhd: Yay for hearing the heartbeat. That's always my favorite part of the appointment too. I was supposed to have a regular OB appt today but because of the rain/-30 degree temps with wind we had everything was a sheet of ice, and my doctor couldn't make it in so I had to reschedule for Wednesday.

I did have my 3 hour glucose. Won't know until Wed. if I passed or not, but since I do work in the clinic I can peek at my chart. I am not sure what is pass and what is fail, BUT they drew blood before the test, at 1 hour, 2 hour, and 3 hour. Before the test and my one hour showed normal range, 2 hour I was 2 points too high, and the 3rd hour draw was in normal range. I assume that is pass, but I don't want to guess.

It was a rough test. The juice itself tasted fine, but I got super nauseous (the most nauseous I've ever been in my whole pregnancy), got a headache, and I was and still am super duper tired. My arms also look horrendous from all the needle pokes from today and last week still.

On a good note, we put the crib up, and I went in search of a 3 drawer dresser to match the crib as best as I could. Today my mom messages me and says, "Do you want a Graco dresser to go with your crib?" I'm like, "Mom, that dresser [thinking it was the 3 drawer dresser] is 150 bucks. I can't say yes to that. That's expensive." Our goal was just to buy a second-hand dresser that matched as best we could. I guess she didn't care because she said she wanted it to match for me, so she went ahead and bought not the 3 drawer dresser, but the Graco 4 DRAWER DRESSER in espresso to match the crib!

I seriously couldn't ask for more loving and giving parents. If I am even half the mom my mom is to me, this kid will have all the love he will ever need

@megz06: aww that's so sweet of your mom!

I had my follow-up ultrasound at the hospital today to check on baby girl's kidneys, and (drum roll please;) ) .........everything looks normal now!!!!! the kidneys are both within normal size range, so I don't need any extra u/s or monitoring at the hospital!! I have a regular appointment with my dr tomorrow too but that should be relatively uneventful. Baby looked great today, besides the kidneys--good heartrate and she weighs 2lb 12oz: getting big!

I passed my 3 hour glucose!! I am SO happy. My doctor said if I had failed 2 out of the 3 draws, I would have been in trouble, but one failed draw is still considered passing so no further monitoring for me. Very relieved.

On a slightly more sour note I need to get my TDAP shot at my next appointment since they give them between 27-32 weeks. I begged her to let me do it next appointment because after all these needle pokes, I need a break!!

AND baby is still breech, BUT she assured me he has plenty of time to move. I told her to find his butt for me so I can spank him when he gets onory, lol. His head his below my right rib, so that explains why he gets so mad when I lean forward or rest my hands on the sides of my belly, lol.

I will be transferred to my delivering doctor at 34 weeks (which means taking full days off of work, damn), and I now have appointments every two weeks. Eek! It's crazy too because our baby will be one of the last babies delivered by my doctor as he stopped seeing new OB patients as of January 1st.

@megz06: yay for passing the glucose test!! and thanks for the tdap reminder! I totally meant to ask my dr about that this week and forgot, oops! We also need to figure out where dh can get his, and how to ask his family....(mine already has it because of my young nieces)

    @jhd: good luck!

@LovelyPlum: I know, crazy that the babes are getting so big!! also, I forgot to mention next appointment dates, mine are 2/10 and 2/25--both just regular check ups

@nana87: edited And I hear you on the talking with families...I haven't figured out how to do that yet, but I want to. Then again, we don't live that close to anyone, so I'm mostly concerned with DH.

  28. nana87

    cantaloupe / 6171 posts

@LovelyPlum: I just worry if they're going to get defensive or think I'm crazy...but actually, they should get it for themselves anyway: my fil especially has a lot of health issues related to his cancer treatments and is 74--and pertussis is also really bad for the elderly I just learned. My aunt has been very ill since November, and it turns out it's something else, but for awhile she was in the ICU and they thought it might be pertussis, which apparently causes a 100 day cough in older people! That scared the crap about me--she has twin baby granddaughters that she has spent time with since getting sick, and I would have been a mess if those were my babies and she could have potentially exposed them!

@nana87: @LovelyPlum: I'm also not sure how to ask DH's fam about tdap flu shots etc. they babysit SIL's kids all the time and someone is always sick! we think they suffer from allergies at least some of the time. My parents are closer and generally very healthy. Mom was going to make sure everyone at least got a flu shot.

@nana87: I told my mom she has no choice if she's going to be taking care of our little guy. My dad SHOULD get it, but I'm not too sure I will force it if he doesn't want to since he won't be taking care of our son with mom. He will just be visiting and what not.

The doctor said all grandparents should get it, but it was most important that my husband get it, so he will be doing that at some point. After all my troubles with the in laws, I honestly don't know how I am going to bring it up that they need to get their shots because I know they won't, so I don't know if I want to let it go or really be persistent yet.

I got my Tdap right at 28 weeks because we have a whooping cough outbreak at going on at school. It's been going on for a while, but the doctors wanted me to wait until after 27 weeks per the CDC recommendations. But I've had a booster in the last 5 years, so it wasn't a huge concern.

That one hurt though -- arm was sore for a week!

I looked into it for my husband, because of the outbreak at my job. It's typically available at urgent care centers and drugstores with walk-in clinics and the like. But we're not asking anyone else to get them.

I have an appointment with OB tomorrow afternoon. I'll update here afterwards DD is really excited to "listen to baby". @megz06: I know, right?! But it's a good thing for me. I am pretty sure that they are doing it because even though baby looks great, Mama's a mess. Between the extra stress going on around me, coming off of my meds, and all of the added (not serious, but still nerve-wracking) issues I've had in the last few weeks, I think they'd rather see me than not. It's a small practice, so they all know me, and they're keeping an eye on me. And I'm so grateful, because I don't have a big support system up here. I will say, though, that weekly appointments means that things are getting REAL!!!

And I updated the list for you
