Considering all the lying and sneaking around I did as a kid/teenager or how my brother and I lied for each other so that we could hang out with our friends after school, I know that I will for sure be suspicious of my kids when they grow up.
But then again, I'll probably fall for everything they tell me...

I'm going to probably be trusting. I hope to have good communication with my daughter.. build trust in the relationship so she can talk to me about anything.

I think it just depends on what she's like when she grows up. I was a very good kid,, so hopefully my good karma will also get me a good kid.

I'm hoping I can keep an open line of communication wtih my children. I lied to my parents for the first 2 years of high school and then I realized that if I was just honest with them everything was a lot smoother! I was a party girl, so was my mom, it worked better to be honest and say "i'm going to a party, probably drinking, and I will not drive." Not always the best, but my parents were aware I was going to do it anyways, so they rather know what I was doing and where.

i think i will be cautiously suspicious. lol. i didn't sneak around so i'd hope my kids wouldn't either, but i'm not naive....

I hope I'll be trusting, but not naïve. As a teenager, I was a very "good" kid. I didn't smoke, hang out with "bad influences," and I didn't have my first sip of alcohol until I was 20. Okay...so I may have been a tad sheltered by my own parents, haha.
The one thing I DID do to make my mom really mad was that she found out I had sex at 17. It was with now-DH, but my mom was livid and she still thinks I was a "difficult teenager" all because I had sex with someone (the ONE person I've ever slept with) as a senior in high school.

I will be cautiously suspicious, but their phones will also be GPS enabled so I can spot check where they are at times. We have to be able to benefit from technology!

I'm an amazing liar (uhh, it just took four tries to spell that... lyer... lier... lie-er... gahh) and I'm very sneaky... it's hard for anyone to get away with anything around me because I investigate and am suspicious all the time. I think I would have made an amazing lawyer or police detective.
oh, the question.... uhh, yes, I'm going to be suspicious of my kids. Haha.

you've met Rob Sr., he's such a nice guy... I always say that a crazy biatch like me needs a nice guy like him. The balance lies in that I have juuuust enough good traits to make him happy, and he's juuuust smart enough to stay ahead of my wiles.

Yes, I'm nice, but I have the ability to be really bad too. Marrying a nice guy and having a child has really helped me be a better me.

We have a pretty strict NO LYING in our home.... this goes for EVERYONE DH and I, DS, everyone as a whole. Thus far DS is 7 and I can count on 1 hand how many times he's lied in his whole life.... most of which he came back and confessed to without us having the "get it out of him"
Figure since he knows we never lie to him (which we constantly affirm & remind him & he even says) that he'll continue to trust us even with the tough issues... well tougher... he's already come to us about his friend (also 7) who smokes and we were able to help him be a good friend while at the same time keeping himself out of trouble.
We're believing that we can keep this trend with our future children & whole family in the years to come. =)

@tina: Ditto! I hope to have great, open communication with my kids, but I'll still be suspicious. I was a pretty good kid, but still did stuff I shouldn't have.

I think I will be suspicious even with open communication because I know all the bad things I did as a kid. I know my mom was suspicious of me!

Oooooh yes. My husband was a terror child until he was 7. Not mean, just.... crafty. He got his 2 year old brother and himself out of 5' fence in under 3 minutes when he was 4... I imagine our kids will be equally too-smart-for-their-own-good.

I like to think that all the lying/sneaking around I did to my parents growing up was one of those rites of passage, part of a kid's natural tendencies.
I also like to think that, even though we thought back then we were so incredibly good at it, our parents were pretty much onto everything we thought we hid from them (did they really not smell smoke on my clothes? or beer on my breath, or...yeah).
So, suspicious? I will be every single second. But to me, it's okay, so long as I'm keeping tabs and picking the right spots to intervene. I can't see us as parents preventing anything... only guiding. Seems to already be the case with our LO right now, and he's 2.

Like PPs have said it really depends on how they are when they grow up. I can generally tell when I can trust people and when I cannot very easily so hopefully I will have no reason to be suspicious.
