we have to pick out names first! i don't think we'll keep it from our immediate family.

People love to give their opinions and can sometimes be very mean. We had two names picked out, and no one liked our second choice.

Next time we will be sure to keep it a secret to avoid criticsm.

Heck yeah we're keeping that a secret. It's no one's business until the baby is born. Plus, what if we change our mind when we see him/her! Lol

Well, actually we only decided on a name a month or two before I gave birth and we had no one in our surroundings that were giving birth around the same time.

I did notice that telling people your choice of names causes all sorts of drama so maybe for that part we might keep it secret for baby 2. not sure.

We did have 'names we liked' and people stole those... but now that I think back, I wouldn't of named my child that anyway. Too common (now)

With Claire, we kept her name a secret from the general public, but shared if close friends or family asked. We ended up having one incident where a friend said something negative about her name on TWITTER of all places (and yes, her statuses are public) and not only did we get pretty angry at her, we had to ask her to remove that status update.

So with BebeDeux, we have been keeping it a secret aside from family. Though, in the past month or so we've been more relaxed — we will share if we're pretty sure that the person won't say anything bad about it.

We unfortunately learned a hard lesson with our first son. Both my husband and I are into more unconventional names, and wanted something unique, but also influenced by our mutual love of pop culture. After finding out we were expecting a boy we went through our favorite movie character names, and decided that we really liked the name 'Indiana' after "Indiana Jones."
We didn't keep our future son's name a secret, and got a ton of unwelcomed responses when people asked what his name would be. Probably the worst comment made was from my husband's grandmother who downright said that she HATED the name. When you are pregnant and trying to decide on something that may possibly define your child's life, you are extra sensitive to how others respond. I still haven't gotten over how poorly she reacted. Now everyone that meets Indy says that he has the perfect name and that it totally fits his personality - and I totally agree!

Now that we are expecting our second son, we are only telling a few people some of our name possibilities. But, before we tell people, we also tell them that we want them to keep their opinions to themselves. It's kinda exciting to do is name reveal when he is born, and then (hopefully!) nobody can give us negative feedback on our name choice.

We'll share IF we've firmly decided on it. I'll tell people to shove it if they have nothing nice to say because that's just rude. But I also want to make sure we aren't setting our child up for a lifetime of bad nicknames, too.

We'll probably try to keep it to ourselves until after the delivery. I definitely don't want to hear any negative comments about such a personal decision.

I'm not going to share, just because so far it has for some reason 'weirded me out' to know my friends' baby names before they are born.

We didn't tell anyone the names even though people begged because they wanted to get personalized baby items. But I didn't want any comments, good or bad.

I find it hard to get attached to babies without names. My youngest godson didn't seem real to me until he was 3 days old (his parents FINALLY agreed on Andrew), and I couldn't get attached to my nephew until I knew his name (Carter). So I'll be telling people the names as soon as we know. (Husband refuses to decide on a boy's name until I'm pregnant, but we've talked about which names we like/dislike/most want to use, and why. His Christopher, which I don't like, trumps my Ray, which he doesn't mind, simply because of why he likes the name.)

While trying to decide on names, we got a lot of opinions we didn't necessarily want. So we learned to keep them mostly to ourselves. We've told our parents, but that's about it. People can be so rude and opinionated, but when it comes down to it, it's our baby and our opinions are the ones that matter. We don't want anyone talking us out of a name we really love.

I go back and forth on this. On the telling hand..it might be nice to hear SOME opinions on the name. If our parents hate the name, I think I'd like to know before the baby arrives. And it can be a fun way to involve our family in the pregnancy. We might tell just our parents and siblings but I'm not sure they could keep it a secret.

On the other hand: I'm usually pretty good about ignoring other people's opinions but I'm not sure I will be able to ignore opinions about my kids name. I don't want someone to "steal" the name. I don't particularly want a bunch of monogramed stuff with the baby's name because it limits the use of the items with future kids and I don't want my kid's name on all their clothes/bags/whatever where strangers can see when we're at the grocery store.

The night we told my in-laws that we're pregnant, my MIL wanted to know if we had picked out any names. I really want to keep things a surprise. Of course my husband blabs, and the first comment my FIL makes is that he hated his aunt Eleanor, aka our top girl name. Ugh, back to square one for us. My husband finally decided that maybe we should keep quiet about the names.

We are keeping our name choice top secret, even from our own mothers, until baby is born.

I'm not sure we'll even have a name officially picked out until birth. I just can't imagine knowing until I see him/her. But maybe after finding out the sex it will be easier to pick one out. I can't imagine keeping it a secret if we officially pick one, though. People who don't like it can suck it.

We decided on his name at about 24wks and kept is secret (well a few people found out by mistake) and there were so many ppl that couldn't believe that we were keeping it a secret! Drove my mother crazy.

we plan to keep the name a secret and the gender will be kept a secret too. Often when you tell people the name before the baby is born they think its okay to offer opinions and tell you why they dont like they name.. etc, because they think you still have time to change it.

We told. And I'm so glad because we got tons of personalized gifts!

Next time we're going team green so there really won't be much to tell, but we'll probably still tell people our options.

We are planning on keeping our baby names a secret. We might tell our mothers but that would be it. If someone is really pressing about knowing I would be willing to give them the initials as a compromise before the baby comes.
