Probably a silly question but a few responses from the thread "Has having a child changed the number of kids you previously planned to have?" got me wondering about this.
Pre-having any kids, we always said we would have 2. Then we had our daughter, who has always been challenging, so now we are rethinking. I guess we might not be rethinking if she was "easy"?

I think at some point, most kids start to become easier... that's the danger point at which you start thinking about more kids!

I think having an easy child definitely helps having more. But honestly that doesn't mean the second or third will be easy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that yes it will be easy... but you can't get lucky everytime... right?

@blushink - that is what people tell me. god is fair and will give you one easy and one difficult child. after that...i don't know what happens!

For me, not really. My husband and I both know we def want more than 1. So "god"willing we will have more than 1 regardless of how easy or hard the first one will be.

I've heard from countless people that if they had their second child first, they would have never had a second. I'm really hoping that's not true for everyone!

i know people who don't want another child (after the 1st) because they had such a bad labor/pregnancy. i think most people would want more after having a relatively easy baby.

Taking care of an infant is hard work, but it does get easier with time. Now I say that I'm content with just one, but I know that I'll want another once my LO hits the toddler age. I consider my LO to be very well behaved and a good baby overall, but that doesn't take away how exhausting it is to care for him. Sometimes I do worry that I won't be so lucky the next time around, and I can't imagine taking care of both an infant and toddler.

Oh gawd, this is definitely true for me. Before I had my daughter I was adamant that I wanted "at least" 3 kids! My husband only wanted 2 but I kept saying that it may just happen. Then our daughter was born.
Our daughter is by far the most difficult child we've seen amongst all kids we've met and trust me we've seen a lot of kids because all of our friends are parents of multiple kids. Even health professionals were amazed at how particular and difficult she was!
So yes, it definitely changed my opinion about having any more babies.
She is two months away from turning 2 years old now and I admit that she's gotten much much easier (almost cannot compare, it's like she's a different child now), but I'm still afraid to have another baby because there is no guarantee that our second baby won't be as difficult or even more difficult *gasp* than our first one. She is still not an easy going baby but compared to how she used to be things have gotten much better now so it does make me think about giving her a sibling since I don't want her to be alone but going through c-section again is yet another reason I'm hesitant. Sigh...

Well, I don't have kids yet (working on that...) but my mom always says I was the easiest baby ever. I'm the oldest of 4. Lol. My brother (2) was also fairly easy, just wasn't an easy newborn.
She also says if my youngest brother (3) had been first, she would have stopped there. She's joking of course, but he was QUITE the toddler...and teenager, and well, kid. My youngest sister is adopted, so that's a different case, but she is DEFINITELY the hardest to handle...it's like we progressively get more difficult, literally.

I don't know! Interesting thread. My DH and I have always said that we wanted a big family (he came from a family with 2 kids, and I came a family with 3 of us) we want 4! Granted we will see how it goes! But DH has made it very clear that he doesn't want an odd number! hahaha, he never wants a child to feel like the "middle child"

@mamapink: I feel the same. My LO is 3 months away from turning 2 and I am still hesitant. What if #2 is very hard, too? Ack!

you always hear that if the first one is difficult the second one will be a breeze, however the opposite also holds true, the first is difficult the second one will be a breeze.
In my sister's case, my first niece was a happy go lucky baby who had no problems sleeping/ect. The second one was a very clingy baby (still is and she's 2) but has turned into a happy kid for the most part. She is done though after the second one being a little more difficult!

My LO is not easy. She had pretty bad reflux so she screamed a lot when she was younger. And she's a bad napper, which makes my days pretty hard. She's not one of those babies that is happy entertaining herself. I always have to be entertaining her, holding her, walking around with her, bouncing her. She always wants to be moving. It gets very tiring, and annoying when I see another baby out to eat that just sits there, smiling. And she has stranger anxiety so it's hard for me to get a break, she doesn't like other people to watch her.
But I can't wait for more babies. Of course I hope they're easier then my LO, but I feel like even if they aren't, I'll know how to handle it better because I've been through it. And eventually they'll grow up and it has to get a little easier then.... doesn't it?

I have a 4month old. Another is not in the cards right now. She's super easy, I just hated being pregnant.
