We just got back from a baby shower, and I know most people end up getting clothes and blankets - SO TRUE at the baby shower! I kind of felt bad because when I went to BRU and got 2 things from the registry, I noticed that NOTHING else was purchased from the registry! I know the mom-to-be looked pretty happy when she opened our gifts (and I added a little outfit too). I guess being pregnant and anticipating all the "needs" to come, I would want gifts from the registry too.
Looks like that won't really happen huh?

Maybe 20%? I have no idea why people don't buy gifts off registries!!

I think we made out pretty well between the two showers we had and got 50-75% of our registry essentials. There was a ton of stuff we didn't get, but all of the necessitities (car seat, base, pack n play, swing, bouncer, stroller, carriers, thermometr, humidifer, sheets, bottles, etc.) we got from the showers!
We did get a ton of clothes (and books too which i was really happy about!) but for the most part they were 3 month+ and aligned with what we needed!
I was really surprised that we didn't get any A+A swaddles or receiving blankets or diapers! (We're CDing, so this worked out well for us!!)

I would say about 75% of the gifts we received were from our registry. Most of what we got that was off registry was clothing, of which I returned a lot of.

We were team green so all but like 2 gifts were off the registry.... Yes, I did that on purpose. lol

Not sure percentage but I can say what useful stuff we got: bath stuff and wipes (enough for the first year), nursing cover and our pack n play. That's it! Everything else was clothes and blankets!

10%? Just the travel system (AWESOME) and the boppy (also AWESOME). But we also didn't have a baby shower. Everyone came after baby arrived and most brought clothes or toys. I wish they only brought clothes and not toys (except the handmade toys--OMG some of our friends are super talented!!
We got a few blankets --2 purchased (fleece) and 2 handmade (acrylic).

I would say 75% of our gifts were from our registry... Some of the off-registry items were different types of wipes, diapers, and soaps.

Maybe 10-20%... for some reason, people don't use registries for baby showers, and instead buy clothes and maybe blankets.

I think I got 75%? A lot of people bought bigger items off our registry and also gave us gifts that weren't on our registry...washcloths, clothes, blankets, etc!

Was your friend having a girl? I find that people at showers are generally more inclined to purchase clothes if it's a girl. I received hardly any clothes, neither did my sister and we both have boys! I do give clothes to my sister now, like for her LO's birthday, because I know she doesn't get many.
Nearly everyone purchased off our registry and I was so grateful! We got most of the essentials, and since we did, we had the $$ to get a few of the extras and some things that were left on the registry. I say we got 30% of our amazon registry and about 65% of our BRU registry.

Whew! You guys make me feel a little bit more hopeful about getting "needed" items from the registry!
@runsyellowlites - LOL! I wanted to do that (or at least keep the gender a secret for ourselves) for that purpose! But DH was opposed to that idea and told everyone at 13 weeks that we're having a girl!
@CocoBee - NO! Surprisingly, it was DH's co-worker and they are having a BOY! It's baby #2 though (#1 was a girl), so maybe that's why people neglected their registry? But seriously they got SOOO much clothes! I would say each gift averaged 2 outfits each. They must have gotten at least 30 outfits and half a dozen fleece blankets today!

We were also team green and got most (95%) of our registry! I totally did it on purpose and didn't even anticipate all the gifts we would ALSO get once the baby came! I couldn't believe how many packages people sent after she was born, who had also been generous at the shower! For completely ridiculous reasons, I loved being team green!

of the 2 showers that i've had, a lot of stuff was purchased from our registry, which is really nice. the stuff that is left is the "boring" stuff which people don't like to buy so much, like plain white burp cloths and a car seat adapter...i have another one next weekend, so we'll see if people prefer to buy clothes rather than the boring stuff on the registry.

@mamabehr - That is AWESOME! We've already gotten about 5 outfits as gifts since our friends know we're having a girl! I say tell everyone we are Team Green for #2!

most of the "needed" items came from parents or close family and friends. my parents and MIL bought the big essentials, crib, carseat, stroller. and the in house essentials, bassinet, changing station, monitor, etc. came from gift cards from close friends and family. our shower gifts were mostly clothes, diapers, blankets, books, etc.

I'd say 50% of our gifts were from our registry. But I'll also admit that I was one of "those" people who would buy stuff not on the registry, like adorable outfits from Jacadi or other places that new parents probably wouldn't splurge on. After having a LO of my own, however, I only buy from the registry because now I understand that registry stuff is really really appreciated!

We got 80% of our registry items (and purchased the remaining items we needed with the gift cards & cash we received). But we also got a TON of clothing, too.
I always buy from registries for baby showers. Never wedding registries though

@mrsjazz: Huh! I always buy from wedding registries but rarely from baby ones. I like to buy 12-18month clothes and books. Eh whatever. A gift is a gift. I like gifts--making, buying, receiving.... yay for presents!

@anonysquire: People kept calling me and asking me what I wanted/needed. I would always say, "Everything I want/need is on my registry!" (And this was after they had received the shower invitations with the information). It was a little annoying to receive so many phone calls and e-mails asking what we needed because I knew that people didn't check out the registry I spent a bazillion hours on. But the upside of it is that I got to say it was all there on the registry and that's why we had such a large percentage.

@mrsjazz - I HOPE that will happen for us! I'd very much prefer gifts from our registry and GC's that could be used towards "gear".

I think almost everyone purchased off the registry?? I'd say like 90% of the gifts were off the registry. And if they weren't, then it was something very similar (example: a different brand baby gym).

Almost everything we got was off the registry. A few well-meaning people got us things that weren't on the registry, and several of the things they got us were things I already had.

We got a lot of extra stuff, or so it seemed, but ended up getting about 85% of our registry. We got all of the big items, which was great. I also didn't over register, so I was super happy after my shower with what we got - and the off registry items were all things used!

This is EXACTLY why we're team green as far as anyone knows.
We're finding out the gender, but we aren't telling anyone that we know, including family. Hopefully this will help us avoid the clothes and actually get the things we need.

If it was baby #2, I am a little surprised there was a registry at all. Most people do not have baby showers for baby #2, and most do not register because they have all the essentials from baby #1. I would have bought them clothes too, since it was the opposite gender.

@Pink Champagne: I think a registry is even more important if you're having a shower for a second baby, because people don't know what you need otherwise.
I think people should still shop off the registry - after all, she obviously needs those things or she wouldn't have registered for them. -
@runsyellowlites: Yes, this was us as well! Team Green definitely helps because people aren't going to buy a bunch of gender neutral clothing.
If possible, return as much clothing as you can. I know its lame to return gifts, but you do have things that you NEED.
I would say our registry was about 80% completed by friends but we had also purchased some of our "big ticket" things ourselves (bouncer, play mat, exersaucer, ergo, pump).

@Arden: I was worried about this, but we are having a boy and I think people just found it less fun to shop for boy clothes!
I had also registered for mostly gender neutral stuff in case we have more babies....

Wow, I got a good amount from my registry. I also did get a good amount of clothes.... but I was ok with that because you need clothes too, you don't want your baby to be naked! My LO is 14 months old and I really haven't had to buy many clothes myself, just some shorts and and there and pj's.

@thehistoryofus - Good points. If we do get a lot of clothes when we have our shower, I will try to return some stuff.
@pinkchampagne & @arden - I know, I was a little surprised about the shower for #2, but their #1 has MAJOR medical problems, so I think that's why the co-workers threw the shower for #2. Which is even more reason why I thought they would NEED the things on their registry...

We were team green so we got a ton of registry stuff. My pet peeve is people going off registry. As a Type A stuff researcher every single thing on that list is what I want.

@prettylizy: Exactly. I researched EVERY. SINGLE. ITEM. If I get anything off registry (which I'm sure I will), I will be returning it.
At my wedding shower I got a bunch of glass chinaware I didn't want (gave it away) and tons of stuff that was REALLY not my style. *sigh* I got ONE of the plates from our dish set. lol

@prettylizy - EXACTLY! Me too! LoL! I've been researching stuff for my registry ever since we started TTC! That's why I was kind of sad for the parents that no one else bought anything off the registry!
@arden - Oh I understand. I ended up giving away randoms too.
