@Arden: I'm worried about ugly clothes!!! I'm not going to dress my kid in ugly stuff just bc it was a gift.

@runnerd: I wonder if you register for more clothes that you want, then it will cut down people who just buy whatever they think looks good. I feel like you can't avoid it either way!
nectarine / 2054 posts
@rattles: @runnerd: We also have the Soft Gear changing pad (in blue) - it's the BEST. Still using it at 15 months - I like how it's open on one end, so even though LO's legs go way over the end of the pad, it still works very well.

@snowjewelz: @runnerd: @Arden: Clothes is a worry of mine too, but I guess you can always return stuff (although that seems like a hassle too, so it might just end up donated). Part of me doesn't want to announce gender until after the shower just so people won't get ridiculously gendered clothing items! But maybe registering for some gender nuetral basics might be a good example for people of what we are looking for?

@NorCalWayfarer: You could make it a gender reveal shower! Then no one would know ahead of time, and no one would think it was weird that you waited.
grapefruit / 4311 posts
@NorCalWayfarer: @Torchwood: I wanted to do that!!! but there is no way I could keep gender a secret for that long!

Anyone have anything to say about baby tubs in all this? Anyone get a fancy one and think it was too much or great, or a simple one and it was perfect or not enough?
grapefruit / 4903 posts
@Torchwood: We registered for a Puj and loved it when she was tiny. We were gifted a rubber duck inflatable tub (I later saw it for $15 at Target) that we used from when she outgrew the Puj (around 5 months) until she could sit in the regular tub (around 8-9).

@runnerd: I registered for the mamas & papas snug seat (similar to the bumbo but it comes with a tray). The person that gifted it also got us the activity tray that snaps on...LO loves it!! She's been playing with it for months and she still gets so excited when we put her in that seat with the activity tray.

@rattles: This one? Also, what's up with this picture? It appears to be a sink-only option, but that is NOT a sink faucet.

@LovelyPlum: 3 sprouts hooded towels are the best. And they are SO cute! We were gifted Carter's and PBK hooded towels, too, and we still only use the 3 sprouts. They are so big and absorbent!
@Torchwood: We're still using this tub at 6 months. No complaints!
grapefruit / 4903 posts
@Torchwood: Yup, that's the one (we had green). We lived in a little one-bedroom, one bath apartment until DD was 9 months, and we didn't have anywhere to store a giant plastic number. This one just hung on the back of the door when not in use. I would issue a disclaimer that it doesn't work in every sink, so you'd want to check that out.

@lawbee11: ahh we had one of those and it wasn't bad but we still hated it. I had a fisher price one with a hammock at first which wasn't bad for the first few weeks but then she got too big for the hammock and the bar hit her back.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@lawbee11: That's the one I used at my last nanny job. I did like it. I just can't decide if I want to go the sink route or skip it. And I saw a super fancy one with a sprayer and all this crap that I'm sure we don't need that looked really cool, and DH liked it. But I think it'd be a waste.
@rattles: How old did you keep using it till?
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Torchwood: If I were going to get a fancy/more expensive one I'd get the Boon Naked tub.
grapefruit / 4903 posts
@Torchwood: We used the Puj to 5ish months and the duck from then until 8-9 months. Once she was reliably sitting (and crawling by then), we just got a nonslip mat and used the regular bathtub.

Best on the registry: glider, video monitor, A&A blankets, exersaucer
Worst on the registry: swing and bouncy seat - he didn't like them and we rarely used them
Best off the registry: foam alphabet tiles for the floor - he plays on them everyday, flannel crib sheets - really cozy for winter
Worst off the registry: Sleep sheep - turns off too soon so we never use it, receiving blankets - way too many to be of use
eggplant / 11408 posts
@lawbee11: thanks! Also, we registered for the Boon tub-it looks like it should work. Have you ever used it?

Best thing registered for - Rock'n'play or A&A blankets
Best non-registry gift - tub of baby medicines, droppers, pedialyte pops, etc
Worst registry thing - waterproof pads. We've only used them a few times, but this may change when it's potty training time
Worst non-registry thing - 3 baby books, haven't used any of them or a 9 pack of rattles
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@LovelyPlum: I haven't used it but I wish I had known about it when I registered--I love the way it looks and it seems practical for long-term use.

@mediagirl: Haha! My foscam is a brick too! I got freaked out by the big red eye and unplugged it. I'm hoping it will be useful when Lo is a toddler and i want to make sure there aren't schnangans.
@runnerd: My Lo was born really strong and loved to sit up. Once she was old enough to sit in the bumbo she thought it was the best thing ever. I don't think it's necessary though, and lots of parents say it was useless, so if you have any way to see if your LO likes it first, that would probably be the way to go.
Best thing from registry - Britax stroller and car seat
Worst thing from registry - bottles (couldn't get LO to take them to save my life)
Best thing not on registry - homemade burp cloths. Bigger than store-bought and smaller than receiving blankets
Worst thing not on registry - all the blankets. So many blankets.

Best things I registered for and received: Motorola Monitor, Graco Sound Machine, A&A blankets, Baby K'tan, AngelCare Monitor. We rarely use the last 3 things anymore now, but they were amazing while they lasted!
Best things I didn't register for but received: In terms of usefulness - toy bar for the car seat. She still loves this at 11 months. Extra Boppy cover. (We didn't get too many off-registry items).
Wish I hadn't registered for: Snugabunny Swing. It came in handy a few times, but we could have gotten by just with a bouncer. It's been used more by visiting babies than our own. And 2 Sleep Sheeps - We got 3 sound machines and I kept them all thinking the big sleep sheep would be good for home and the travel Sleep sheep for travel. Should have returned one of them.
Worst Off-registry items: Ugly, off-season clothes (especially size 2-4y/o!), a TON of impractical "baby shoes" that never fit properly, Baby Bullet.
