My PP check up is next week and I know my doctor is going to ask about birth control and I have no idea what I want to do. We tried for 2.5 years to have DS and had failed clomid and iui cycles before getting pregnant naturally. We definitely don't want another baby right away but I also don't want to be on hormonal birth control, I don't think charting will work as I'm EBF and don't have a cycle. That basically leaves condoms (ugh!) so those that have a baby after IF what are you doing or planning to do for BC?

I chart. I don't want anything hormonal... After #1 was born we used a barrier method until I had a cycle. I considered the mini pill, but ultimately figured a year of barrier method wouldn't be the end of the world.

I probably won't use anything. I'm so tired of meds so I don't want to take birth control. The chances of me becoming pregnant are so slim and if it's happens it wouldn't be unwelcome.

I'm on the mini pill since I'm still nursing. I'd never been on BCP before and don't love it (it's hard for me to remember to take too!),but I should probably continue something hormonal to keep my endo better controlled. We are done having kids (ok, like 95% sure) but I can't fathom permanent measures at this time after all we did to get pregnant. But I'm also horrified to be that lady who had IVF twins and then gets accidentally pregnant because I thought I was infertile forever!

We tried for 10 months and then got pregnant via iui. We thought the next child would be a similar struggle and I didn't want to go back on birth control so we didn't use any. I didn't get my period back until 6 months and at that time we decided we'd NTNP and just use charting without temps - we figured it wouldn't matter anyway. At 9 months postpartum we had sex one time during my fertile window and ended up pregnant with twins. I say this because you can't assume you won't get pregnant but if you're open to another child there's no reason to need birth control. After these twins I think I'm doing an iud because I don't want more kids anytime soon.

After us ttc for 3 yrs IUI and CP we finally got blessed with DD by surprise, I said Hello No to bc and went the condom route
Is hard though and not going to lie and say we have used them properly

I'd love to say we were wild in the sack after having our first baby with IUI/injectibles, but we were just so tired as new parents that exhaustion felt like birth control for us for a while. I did pay attention to my cycle once it returned and we did try a few times on our own - but I'm glad I never got back on any BCP after our first because I didn't want to have one more thing to consider again for "why aren't we getting pregnant?!" We returned to the RE before our LO turned 1 and got pregnant again with our second IUI/injectibles round. I'm now 24 weeks along, and after this baby - I believe I will let my husband consider the method of prevention moving forward

I have PCOS, so I happily went back on the pill after I had my first child. We knew we wanted another child, but were actively preventing for the time being. I wasn't breastfeeding, so BCP worked for us.
When we were ready to TTC, I went off the pill and saw my RE again. It wasn't quite that simple, and there were losses involved, but that is the nutshell of our process and thoughts.

I did charting and condoms but accidentally got pregnant. This time I'm planning on the paraguard IUD which has no hormones.

I'm on the pill...because I just know that I would be the one who would get knocked up even though it took over 4.5 years & IVF to get pregnant. I'm not taking any chances. FWIW, pretty sure we're done having kids but don't want to make any permanent decisions for another year or two.

I have PCOS and don't ovulate on my own, so when my OB mentioned BC I told her I wasn't interested. She understood and said to remember that because it had been difficult, you never know what might happen.

That subject actually came up at my last OB visit. The midwife basically said since I did IVF she wasn't going to talk to me about an IUD.
I also don't plan to do anything for BC because the chance of my getting knocked up accidentally are minute. DH's sperm count is already extremely low, plus we don't have a very active sex life. When we do the deed, he often doesn't finish. So yeah, I think we'll be fine

Slightly different situation as we cannot get pregnant naturally no matter what so no birth control. I hate hormonal birth control anyway so getting rid of it years ago was fantastic. I personally prefer condoms to the pill.

I am on the mini pill but only for a few months (6 months or lessl) then I'll stop again.
I am allergic to latex so this was the best option to avoid getting pregnant right away.

I imagine we'll go back to withdrawl method since it's always worked for us. I don't like hormonal birth control for me and we never end up using condoms when we have them so... We've never had an oops in 6 years. I have DOR and will be over 38 after we have our next (IF we have another- still trying :/) so the chances of getting pregnant again seem very slim.

I'm not sure what we will do. I know being pregnant/having a baby can help keep endometriosis at bay and have heard of others getting pregnant naturally after IVF.. I def DON'T want to get pregnant accidentally with a young baby. So maybe do the mini pill? We just used the pull out and pray method after we were married before we knew we would have difficulty TTC.

@travellingbee: I got accidentally pregnant at 42, so it can happen however unlikely. It was sad because it ended in miscarriage most likely due to chromosomes. Be sure you can tolerate that kind of loss. It really messed with me!

I never want to be on anything hormonal. I was only on the pill for a short span in my 20s, but it made me nuts. For now, we rely on exhaustion + condoms.

@Mrs. Jacks: I understand it could but we've never had an oops in 6 years. If he always withdraws in time and I know my cycle I feel confident that it is unlikely.

@travellingbee: I didn't realize you were using NFP too. I agree. Very unlikely, although my accident was the one month I had a wonky cycle. I wasn't temping at the time because I had been soooo regular up until that one time.

I was caught off guard by the question about BC and ended up with a prescription for the pill, but I'm leaning towards NTNP. What did you end up deciding?

We did IVF for DS and so I dint thnk I would need BC but the OB assured me she has seen LOTS of women with IF get pregnant after having a baby.
I quit after 6 months once I felt like if I got pregnant it wouldn't be the end of the world.
I DID end up getting pregnant naturally with DD after weaning my DS - so yeah, she was right!

@ineebee: we are using condoms until we feel we wouldn't be horrified by being pregnant, lol, which honestly will probably only be 3-6 more months.

@Mamaof2: Wow! That's great! How many months PP were you when you got your BFP? And feel free not to answer this question, but I'm curious what was your IF diagnosis? I did IUIs and IVF because of PCOS.

I'm on the pill but seriously considering tubal ligation. Our situation is different in that I can get pregnant very easily but I most definitely should not. I have a balanced translocation between chromosomes 18 and 20, so I am a "carrier" (of sorts) for trisomy 18 which is pretty terrible. It has caused 2 miscarriages and will likely happen again and again (or worse) if we get pregnant naturally.
We need IVF with PGD anyway, so tubal ligation seems to make sense.
My body and I need a rest from all of the meds!
