My old 5s is dying and I'd like to buy a used iPhone 8+. Have any of you bought a used phone off Facebook, LetGo, etc.? I know to check for water damage, get the IMEI, and make sure it's compatible with my carrier (verizon). Is there anything else I should do?
I've never bought something so expensive secondhand before, so it makes me nervous. But I can't really afford to buy new, so fingers crossed I don't get burned!

I haven’t bought one, but when I upgraded my phone last time I sold it to a company called Orchard (getorchard.com) - they seem to have warranty’s and stuff, and I know the amount they paid me was dependent on the state the phone was in.

My husband has bought all three of his iPhones from kijiji and had great experiences every time. He also bought and sold an iPad that way. 2 of the 3 phones he purchased were less than a year old so he still had the warranty which I liked. He has to buy his phone outright to keep his plan so this way he saves a couple hundred dollars.
All the things you mentioned are what you need to check and just test it out while you’re with the person and you should be good to go. Good luck!

Not the same but my husband bought a refurbished Mac through the Apple store and it’s been great. He’s had it for years now.
