Can I stop pumping at 10.5 months but keep breastfeeding? I am just DONE pumping for 1.5 hours a day to get 4 or 5 measly ounces. I'd love to keep up our regular nursing sessions until she's a year old, but am not sure how badly ditching the pump would affect my supply. Has anyone had success with this?

I found that my supply stayed very stable for the feeds I kept but dried up during my normal work hours. My kid was a little frustrated during the day on weekends for a while. I didn't stop pumping until my kid was over a year and also having cow milk...so you'd need to think about what you're replacing those feeds with (frozen, formula).

@lilyofthewest: Good to know! I'm thinking I'll use frozen until I run out, therm switch to formula. I'd forgotten about weekends...was your LO still nursing and frustrated because nothing was there, or just frustrated because he wasn't allowed to nurse during the day at all?

@babypugs: Still nursing and frustrated at how little there was. It wasn't that there was nothing...the breast is never really empty...but there was a lot less than he was accustomed to.

@babypugs: absolutely! I stopped pumping at work at 17 months (baby had allergies which is why I went so long) and I'm still nursing at 21 months. I make less milk, but it's no problem. He supplemented with yogurt and just nursed with less milk.

yes, I did that exact timing. I pumped up until Christmas break, nursed on demand over break, did not pump afterwards at work at 11 months. During month 11 he did formula or whole milk during work hours, nurse while I was home, nursed on the weekends too even during the day. I don't think there was much milk there during the day, but he enjoyed it regardless, and we would give him a cup of milk or two during the day. I nursed up until 15 months just fine, though I think it was much more supplemental in terms of volume - we gave him maybe 3 to 4 sippy cups of whole milk a day, maybe 5 oz each? I weaned him at 15 months due to getting pregnant, but we could have been going much longer than that.

DD1 stopped taking bottles when I was at work at 10 months, so that’s when I stopped pumping. I didn’t replace it with cups of milk or anything g since it’s not necessary unless they’re missing calcium and vitamin D elsewhere. It didn’t effect my supply in terms of when I was with her (so morning, evening, weekends). She breastfed until she was 2.5.

I don’t pump daily. I EBF him and my supply is fine. I am going back to work next month so I will pump there and nurse when I get home.

I think it could work! I pumped from when I went back to work at 6 months until 11 months and nursed DS through the summer (teacher here.) When I went back to work in the fall, I kept up with nursing after work and before bed with no problems. We ended up stopping at 14 months but not because of my supply (I don't think) but we were both just done. Good luck!

Definitely! I stopped pumping at 15 months and nursed for another two years! I usually felt a little engorged when I got home from work on Monday afternoons since my son nursed a lot over the weekends, but that was the worst of it.

With LO1 I stopped pumping at 9 months (I was 3 months pregnant and SO OVER it) and used frozen and then formula for the feedings I was missing, I didn't really notice a difference on the weekend. He ATE food though so I knew he was getting what he needed.
With LO2 I just stopped recently at 14 months and I give him 4-6 oz of cow milk on the weekends to make up for what he might not be getting from me. He still likes to nurse two or three times during the day when I am around and I dont mind. He gets 4-6 oz of cow milk when I am at work and eats and drinks lots of other things. I haven't been giving more because he usually has yogurt 2 times a day and would happily only eat and drink dairy if i let him...

I did actually continue nursing after giving up pumping with my first, but that was at 13 months and I didn't really care if there was much milk. I think I'm going to start cutting back this week. I could sing!

I nursed my daughter once a day for almost a year - including throughout 9 months of pregnancy and beyond. It is do-able!

Yes. I stopped pumping at 6/7 months and nursed DD till 1 year.

@babypugs: no but I mostly stayed at home and fed on demand and had a stash.

@babypugs: Sorry - I should have clarified that this was when she was around 17 months. But she nursed only once a day from 17 - 27 months and I still had somewhat of a supply during that time!

Definitely! I stopped pumping at a year, but I'm still nursing at 15 months old. Mostly just when he wakes up and at bedtime.

I did this with both boys. I stopped pumping around 10 months as I had a large enough freezer stash to get me to 1 year. And then I nursed when I was with them until at least a year. I think I made it to around 14 mo with DS2 before we weaned.

@babypugs: I plan to stop pumping the Friday before Christmas! She would have just turned 1. I am going to keep nursing since she is nursed to sleep still!
