I've read so many conflicting things. We are TTC but I still haven't gotten my period as we are still nursing just 4-8 minutes a day. Is it possible to get pregnant without a period due to nursing?
I took an OPK and it was a nice positive and I've noticed some real CM changes in the last 2 months FWIW. I feel like I'm close to menstruating...

Yes, as long as you ovulate, which you apparently are!
I started using OPKs before I got my period back and we got pregnant.

@Iced Tea: I guess I wonder how can you ovulate and not get your period (ie, flush out that uterine lining?)?!

@pachamama: when did you get the pos OPK? If you don't get your period 2ish weeks later, you're either pregnant (yay!) or it was an LH surge but you didn't actually ovulate.

@pachamama: I was three months post partum, ovulated, got pregnant and then my period didn't come because I was pregnant. Had I not gotten pregnant I would have gotten my period.

You can but you have to ovulate. Most people who got pregnant while breastfeeding probably would have gotten their period back that month if they hadn't gotten pregnant. Your body can gear up to ovulate and then not actually ovulate, though, so if you don't get your period this month and don't get pregnant, that could explain the positive OPK.

Yes, you have to ovulate to get the period first!!!!! And if you get OH well then.......no.AF

I just read last night in TCOYF that your body might give you a few "false starts" with fertile-quality cervical fluid a few times as it gears up to ovulate the first time post partum. I'm not sure if that means it would produce enough LH for a positive OPK before you're actually ovulating, but either way it sounds like you're almost there!
So do you take an OPK every day? My almost 1 year old is down to 3 nursing sessions a day and is probably about to drop to 2, and I've got all the O signs, so I'm wondering when it'll happen myself...

My body has a few of the false starts people are talking about- particularly the changes in CM- for a few months before I actually got my period back. I was still nursing 2-3 times a day.
Period finally came back 2 weeks after she dropped to one session a day, 2 weeks after that I got pregnant.

@YogiRunner: no, I rarely,use OPKs, I only tested when I noticed CM change and because my OB prescribed me progesterone which must be started 3 days post O. I'm very hesitant to ride the OPK train as I had a terrible time conceiving my first and I don't want to overthink this or get nutso. Which I am doing

I haven't had a period since 2010. I have 3 children. They just nurse forever and I don't get my period back and since we wanted 3 they came along as soon as I night weaned but before a period.
