Hello! I've been EBF my daughter for 8 months now And I love the experience and bonding I have with her (after 4 months of transition from bottle and sore nipples, etc.) My goal is to BF her for a year. My husband and I had plans to have another baby, and wanted them to be a year or two apart. This was all before we knew anything about breastfeeding. We didn't know it was also nature's contraception! How long before your menstrual cycle returned while breastfeeding?

With DS I EBF and I didn't see AF for over a year...I think it came back around 14 months, once he started more solids.

This method didn't work for me (or my mom) and AF returned 4 & 3 weeks after giving birth despite pumping and nursing around the clock.

Great question! I'm curios about this as well, my LO is almost 8 months. I think it can really vary from what I've heard. I know one mom who got hers just a month PP and another who didn't until she was totally done BFing after 2 years.

I EP'ed, and my period came back at 11 months when I was pumping 5x a day (20 minutes each session).

I'm almost 8 months pp with my son and no AF yet! -
I'm just over 11 months pp and I had some spotting that I think was AF about 2.5 weeks ago.

EBF and AF returned at 5.5 months.

I have the Mirena IUD and I got spotting 5 months post partum. I think that was my period. It's the same time of month one month later and I totally feel pre-menstrual.

I assume AF means period, what does it stand for? From the info I read, it depends on how responsive your body is to the breastfeeding hormones. Looks like I won't get mine till I wean DD, She doesn't show any signs of wanting to wean yet. We have started solids with her, so I hope when it's to wean she'll be able to adjust. I also read that if you cut out some night feedings or go with BF for longer stretches, your period might return sooner. I don't care much for period and not looking to it returning lol but I need to ovulate! Can someone tell me how it feels like while you are still BF and your period returned? Lately I feel some sort of contractions down there, makes me think maybe my period is coming back, but nothing so far.

@Snowybreeze: Same here. I sometimes feel some light cramping but still no period.
10 months post partum and still no sign.

@Snowybreeze: It used to be a way to refer to your period without letting boys know: "Can't go swimming with you tomorrow, my Aunt Flo is visiting" etc..

7 months even though EBF for 6 months. Started solids at 6 months and baby slept longer stretches at night (5-7 hours).
