Does the job for a coloring and activity surface.

@Freckles: I don't have one, but for road trips I got a baking sheet for each of them from Dollar Tree. The rim held any crayons/markers from rolling off, and because it was magnetic, I could glue magnets onto puzzles and hot wheels for extra activities.

We have a little shopkins lap desk I found on sale at michaels and it works well for coloring. It has side zipper pockets for markers etc. I got it when she was 4 so for younger I don't know. I found it a little hard to find something that would fit between the arm rests (she sits in a frontier).

@Foodnerd81: yes, it does. There was also one on Amazon I think that worked - I measured - but I happened to find that one in store. The amazon was similar design (elastics to hold paper and side pockets) but no characters I think.

Has anyone used a tray like this with a car seat that's still rear facing? I wonder if the recline angle would be too much for this to work. Does your kid get hot under there? I feel like a cookie sheet would get flung on the floor, but this might piss him off if he can't move it. DS is 2 and I'm kind of dreading my next road trip, can you tell?
