S is 20 months now. She's still not STTN, but we had settled into a good routine of one wake up per night - I would give her a drink of warm milk, which she would drink lying down in her crib, and then she would snuggle down and go back to sleep with no fuss. Until it didn't work any more....

The last few nights, she has woken up as usual, but screamed to be picked up. If I try to lie her down she twists and leaps straight back up. She bats her milk away angrily. She just wants to be cuddled. Then, after a cuddle (and her milk in my arms), she freaks out when I put her down again.

We decided that the right thing was to let her cry. She cries for a good 20 mins every night at bedtime before she falls asleep so she knows "night night" means she needs to settle down and give it up. Only she didn't give it up! The first night she cried for an hr and a quarter. Then last night, she cried for two hours. In the end, I gave up and went into her. After a bottle in my arms, I put her down again and she cried for a further half an hour before giving it up (standing in her crib).

She's dangerously close to being able to climb out of the crib, too. I'm wondering if a floor bed might be a good idea, but I'm worried that she will just keep running out of her room.

We need sleeeeeeep!
