Last night we had LO's door closed and ours closed over because we had ACs on. All of a sudden I am woken to him screaming and I run into his room to find him standing at the door! I almost had a heart attack. He was fine and unhurt which was my first concern but he must have been as startled as I was. He is only going to be 14 months next week and the crib mattress is already at the lowest level. Did anyone else have early escapees and what did you do? Would you transition to a toddler bed at this age? Of course the monitor wasn't working last night either, which hasn't been an issue because he has been sleeping so well through the night, but I am picking up a new one on the way home tonight so maybe I can catch him before he takes the next leap.

Wow that sounds scary at 14 months! If you aren't ready to transition you could try a sleep sack - I think that's the only thing keeping my LO in his cot as he can almost climb into it from outside!

I had a nightmare that that happened once! Scared the beejebers out of me. You could try telling him he's not allowed to climb and put some pillows and stuff around his crib and see if he listens.

We turned our son's crib around - now the high side faces out and the low side is against the wall. It is a pain getting him in and out, but he doesn't climb over any more. He definitely was not ready for a bed!

You could take the springs out and just put the mattress on the floor. Then the crib will still be around the mattress.

I was an early escapee as a kid (around that same age I believe) and my parents transitioned me out of the crib and into a twin bed with a railing.
