My girls are two years apart. I certainly don't plan to buy multiples of everything (that would be insane, they can learn to share!). But there are some things that I was just tired of the arguing and fighting and caved.
One of which - a doll umbrella stroller. Now they both play together at the same time, which is awesome. We have a couple duplicate stuffed animals, too.
Do you have any multiples of toys to avoid WW3?

Two girls, 22 months apart and we have two:
-doll strollers
- (faux) American girl dolls
- scooters
And plenty of comparable but slightly different baby dolls, stuffed animals, tutus, butterfly wings. art things, etc. I try to get different color versions of the same items when we buy duplicates so that we know "whose is whose". I'm trying to avoid always getting two of things, because sometimes, they've just got to share!

Oh, I don't know what I'll do.
They are too young to really fight over toys. They do play tug of war with some toys.
If I need to buy two of something, I try to get two different colors so they each can have one. But I don't think with the twins being 11 months old that I need to buy identical toys.
I know my brother who has 3 boys, they sometimes get the same identical toy so they don't fight over it.
I guess I'll find out later if I can successfully distract the other with a different toy.

Two stethoscopes for playing doctor. They share the rest of the tools fine though.

Toy shopping carts! The only item I caved and bought two of. With play kitchen and how much playtime they get with them.....well worth it! Doll stroller would be next, but we haven't duplicated anything but the carts!
ETA -my Mom has two magnadoodles for them, lol!

Mine are 20 months apart and we don't really do this. We have some duplicates of trains for the train table and little cars and trucks but mostly from gifts or getting something used or handed down. LO1 had a cart that he liked to fill with toys and race around the house. We thought of getting a second but we have other push toys that sufficed.
The bigger issue for us is clothes. They always want to wear the same thing!

@sunnyday: Oh, yes! We have two magna-doodles, two sticker books....two of anything they play with in the car, actually, since they're restrained in car seats facing opposite directions and can't share. But these aren't big-ticket items.
I also imagine that when they have their own rooms, they'll have more duplicates - things like doll beds, possibly even different doll houses...I'll have to see where they are playing and what makes sense.
@skipra: My girls have started "borrowing" each other's clothes!!! They stayed at my MIL's last week, and I got photos texted to me of the "wrong" kid wearing certain outfits. I totally don't care, but was giggling trying to figure out who fibbed to her about which clothes belonged to which girl - because both girls definitely know what is theirs!!!

It really depends on the item. They each have their own soccer ball and basketball, but we only have one basketball hoop. They each have their own Teddy Bear. They each have their own Tricycle. And car toys - definitely double - magna doodles and tables. They'll each get their own kid keyboard for Christmas. The train set, they have to share (even though technically most of the trains were given to Xander), and the hot wheel cars, they have to share, along with the track.
