Just realized I forgot necessary pump parts at home!
12 hour work day, booked pretty solid.
1 hr commute.
Car parked at sattelite lot requiring a shuttle.
Oh dear.
Any ideas how I get myself out of this one?
I'm thinking I need to become really good at hand expressing, stat!

@78h2o: ugh that sucks. Sounds like hand expressing is probably your best bet.
That happened to me before, but luckily i only live 15 min away from work. It's the worst feeling!

Start hand expressing BEFORE you get engorged/super hard. Hand expressing is a lot easier with a soft breast!

I have done that before and it sucks!!!
Any Target, walmart, etc nearby? Can you borrow a co-worker's car? Hubby?

@Navy_Mommy: Ok, thanks! I'm going to have to look for some instructional videos. I can usually get an oz or two, but I'm going to have to do better than that.
@regberadaisy: I have an Ameda and there are these flexible cups that go in the top... I'm missing those and then the little teet thingies...don't know what they're called. I have the flanges and the pump but I know it won't work without the other things. Can't think of any way I could Macgyver myself out of this one! I could maybe use bags for the cup insert things, but can't think of anything for the teet part.

Ouch. I've done that. Hand-expressing is your best bet unless you have somebody who could bring you parts. Good luck!

@78h2o: that sucks! Hand expressing is pretty easy, but SO much more time consuming than pumping...obviously! I mimic the pump when I hand express. Short quick pushes like the beginning function of the pump, massage the breast before hand. Do you have anything you can save the hand expressed milk in?

@78h2o: do you live in a major city? Sometimes there are delivery services that will pick up anything and everything. Probably expensive, but worth it in this case! They could probably get what you need from target or something and deliver it to your office.

@MamaMoose: If any of my clients cancel I may be able to get to my car and get to a CVS or something. Fingers crossed.
So far I have gotten 2 oz. I need to get at least 8 to have enough for tomorrow (have 8 at home), so we'll see...
I work in a large medical complex, so I'm trying to see if I can find the contact info for the main hospital - maybe a lactation consultant there would have supplies? That's a long shot!

Hand express if you don't have another option today. I kept a spare set of those little necessary parts in my desk for days like this (coworker warned me before I returned to work).

@78h2o: I think checking w/ an LC is a great idea. If nothing else, they may have a hand pump you can buy.

Another thought. I keep my manual/hand pump in my desk at work. That way, the next time I run into this problem, I have a solution available.

@MaisyMay: I left the LC a message. I also called the hospital pharmacy, but they didn't have anything.
Yeah, I do have a manual pump, because I left my pump at work once over the weekend (are you sensing a trend? mommy needs more sleep! lol), so I could leave it at work. I now have my sister's pump at home full time, so leaving the pump at work is no longer an issue.
ETA: So I got 3 oz in about 30-40 min. Hopefully I will have 2 more holes in my schedule like that and then I might be okay!

@78h2o: Also try warm compresses to get things flowing. Maybe just paper towels from the bathroom with warm water or throw them in a microwave for 10 seconds?

Oh no! I forgot one of my valves/membranes last week but did bring one, so I had to single pump and it took forever. I cannot hand express, so I would not be able to do this, you did awesome!
Get an extra set of pump parts to keep there, or a manual!

@ladyfingers: I will have to call and see how much it would be to order extra membrane thingies. OMG - I just realized that I did have extra "teet" parts in the pocket of my pump bag, but yeah, no membrane thingies. I maybe could have improvized that part with plastic bags, but oh well.
Here is my LIQUID GOLD from today. Took at least an hour out of my day, as I couldn't multitask, but I actually got more than usual (10oz vs. 8 or 9). I usually hand express at the end of pumping sessions, but I have never hand expressed for a whole day. At least I know it's possible to get enough that way.

Way to go. I forgot the same piece with on one of my flanges today to, but luckily I had one all put together.
