My son is 7.5 months and has been a great sleeper for about a month and a half, after some really light sleep training and I think just coming into his own. He goes down every night between 7 and 730, and either sleeps til 630 or wakes around 4 or 5, feeds, and goes back down til 7. This has been fairly reliable for about a month. He goes down for all naps and night sleep either drowsy or fully awake, and usually falls asleep within 5 minutes.

He's been trying to crawl for about 2 weeks now, and started spending the time before falling asleep rocking on all fours and moving around the crib. It didn't seem to affect his sleep at all, until todays nap and bedtime. Instead of settling down he got more and more upset while rocking, eventually starting to cry. At nap time I let him cry it out, he fell asleep for 20 minutes and woke up screaming so I got him up. Then at night he basically fell asleep nursing (probably exhausted from his 20 minute nap!), but woke up when I put him in the crib and repeated the same nonsense as at nap time, cried for about 15 minutes and finally passed out.

In people's experience, is this the beginning of a regression? Did it get better once crawling was mastered? Am I in for a disaster of 4 month regression proportions? It has been SOOO nice having reliable naps and night sleep - I know it can't last forever......
