K is 2.5 and I am due March 11.

She slept and napped on the weekends in a crib until Christmas time - she naps on a cot at Daycare.

We got a big girl room all ready for her and moved her into a toddler bed around the first of the year. Knowing DD2 would be in a basinett until likely mid April...I felt I had wiggle room.

K has done great with the transition...we did try it for naps first for two days before going for overnight. The overnight was easier as she was more tired I think.

We were in the same situation and went with 2 cribs, even though we had to buy another one. I just couldn't handle the thought of 2 kids awake in the middle of the night. We switched LO1 to a twin bed about 8 months after the baby came. She did great but I'm still glad we waited.

I'm in the same boat except LO #1 is just 19 months right now. We really don't want to buy a second crib, so we are going to wait and transition him about 2 months before my due date (when he's 21 months) so that situation is hopefully settled before baby arrives.

Our DD will be 24 months when DS gets here and we're doing two cribs. Just like your LO, she has no interest in climbing out (knock on wood) and I think she's just not ready quite yet for a big girl bed. Once she acclimates to the new baby we might try adding the bed rail to her crib this summer.

DS will be 26 months when LO2 arrives at the end of the month, and so far we are leaving him where he is. I think LO2 will be in a Moses basket with us for at least 4 months or so, and if LO1 doesn't seem ready by then I will just buy another second hand cot. I see no reason to mess with his awesome sleep, and he absolutely LOVES his cot (crib) so I don't want to push any more changes on him than he's already going through. If he tries to climb out he will be straight into a bed though.

This was our situation, same age and sleeping perfectly in the crib. We transitioned our older LO around 33 months, the baby was due right at 36 months. It went perfectly.

@NeekieRose: Nice! We bed share with my 14 mo old, so I'm kinda thinking that transitioning her straight to a big girl bed w/ bed rail would actually be easier to get her into the crib at this point!

I say stick with what works. I could only be saying this because we are in the midst of the transition and our son comes into our room at night a lot right now. If he is doing well in the crib, I wouldn't push it.

DS1 will be 20 months when DS2 is born in May. DS1's daycare has him nap in a PNP right now and he sleeps just fine in his crib, so I'm not really keen on doing a bed transition right now. I may revisit the matter when he starts a 2 year old preschool program in the fall where I assume they will transition him to cots or mats for naps.

Do you have a pack n' play? We have the Dream on Me pack n' play mattress (it was only like $35 on Amazon) that we use when we travel so we're planning on having DS2 sleep in the PNP with the mattress once he transitions out of his bassinet and then evaluate what our needs are later.

We already own a bedrail and a twin bed, so it just seems like a waste to buy a 2nd crib!
