1. I chose a D&C. I wanted to to get things over with as quickly as possible, and I in NO way wanted to go through a natural miscarriage at home, while dealing with LO1. I would choose this method again.
2. The process was very easy--it was an outpatient procedure. I was under twilight sedation, and not gonna lie, I freaked out about the anesthesia. I was crying walking into the OR, because i was terrified. But everyone was so nice, and it was super smooth. I woke up not remembering a thing (last thing I remember is feeling my eyes get very heavy on the OR table). I physically felt totally fine that day and the next two days, just tired. The third day, I had more cramping (like bad period cramps) and heavier bleeding, but nothing terrible. I think the bleeding lasted about a week.
3. It didn't really have an effect on my body that I could see...I ovulated about 3 weeks after the D&C and then got my period about 11-12 days after that. My cycle returned to normal pretty much right away.
4. My OB said I could TTC right away. She recommended waiting to get AF first after the D&C, but said that's not really medically necessary.

@Alivoo01: you should be able to, but you might want to have some help that day, because I personally only wanted to lie in bed and try to sleep when I got home from the procedure.

1) Which D&C procedure did you choose and why? Would you have chosen differently?
I chose to get the D&E done as I did not want to take medication or wait for it to pass. Those options seemed more traumatizing than getting a D&E done, so I would not have chosen differently. The worst part was in between finding out I did not have a viable pregnancy and getting the D&E.
2) How was the D&C process? What about afterwards?
It was a very quick outpatient process for me. I was in at 8 and out by noon. I felt groggy because of the anesthesia and slept the remainder of the day and night. I physically was still a little sluggish for the next couple of days.
3) How did it affect your body (e.g. your period, your body, etc.)?
I was groggy for a couple days because of the anesthesia, but that was it. It only took my body about 5 weeks to get my period back and I didn't notice anything change about my cycles.
4) How long did you have to wait till you could TTC again?
My doctor recommended waiting a month or two to TTC again, but if we were really aggressive about it and got pregnant again sooner, they said it isn't problematic. However, DH and I were not emotionally ready to begin TTC again for about another six months after.

So so sorry you are going through this

1. My D&C was scheduled early in the morning, the day after my OB no longer saw a heartbeat at 11 weeks Since I was so far along, this was really my only option. I was glad because I did NOT want to miscarry on my own at home and I wanted it to be over ASAP!

2. The procedure was very easy. I was very nervous about the anesthesia but went better than I expected. They told me to count backwards from 10 to 1 and I don't even remember getting to number 8. It was over within an hour and I was home about an hour and a half after that. Once I could walk myself. I had minor cramping for about 2 days and light bleeding for about a week. Not bad.

3. My period did not return after the D&C, so I called my OB after three months had passed and still no AF. He gave me Provera to get my period going again.

4. Once I was on the Provera, it took two months before my BFP

1. At first I chose to let my body miscarry naturally but after waiting almost 4 weeks I finally went with the standard d&c procedure at a clinic.
2. It was a very quick procedure that took 2 hours from when I arrived to when I left. The clinic I went to went through some pre-op procedures and then the actual d&c was quick I think. I was put to sleep and woke up shortly after it was done in the recovery room where I sat for 30 minutes to let the anesthesia wear off. I was able to walk out of the clinic.
3. Surprisingly, I felt "normal" again when I left the clinic. Aside from some light cramping and bleeding, I felt ok.
4. I waited a couple months before we ttc. It was more of a mental wait since physically the OB and clinic said I only needed to wait one cycle.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

I had a D&E. That's just what the doc suggested and I guess we were so in shock we just went along with whatever. I definitely needed it because my baby died and we didn't find out til 3 weeks later and my body had done nothing about it. I would choose the same again if I had to/were able to.

2) How was the D&C process? What about afterwards?
I was completely under. I recommend that absolutely. I was kinda sore and crampy after, but nothing too bad. The only bad part was the medicine they gave me to contract my uterus back down to size. It hurt a lot after the first dose. And it also gave me the runs. I don't work so I was lucky I could just lay on the couch all day for as long as I needed.
3) How did it affect your body (e.g. your period, your body, etc.)?
My period took about 6 weeks to come after that. I still was getting positives on HPTs right up until it came. That first period was different. I had bad cramps and the blood was very watery. After that things got back to normal.

4) How long did you have to wait till you could TTC again?
I was told after my first period (mentioned above) I could start ttc again.

2) How was the D&C process? What about afterwards? - It was outpatient surgery - I went in, they put me under and did the procedure, I woke up a bit later and they sent me home. It was really easy. I took several days off of work, but really could have gone back the day after the procedure. I had bleeding and cramps, but about the same or slightly less than normal period cramps for me.

3) How did it affect your body (e.g. your period, your body, etc.)? - I got my period back within a few weeks and there were no changes to my cycle, but I was on the pill.

4) How long did you have to wait till you could TTC again?- like @HappyBluebird:, I had a molar pregancy, so I had to wait an extended time. My doctor originally said 1 year, but cleared us to start TTC after 10 months.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I wish you the quickest recovery possible both mentally and physically.

To answer your questions, the two procedures I had were similar:

1) Which D&C procedure did you choose and why? Would you have chosen differently? I had 2 D&Es under twilight anesthesia. I wouldn't have chose differently because it helped to get things moving far more quickly.

2) How was the D&C process? What about afterwards? It was fine. Very quick both times. DH waited about an hour from the time they took me in until the time I was in recovery. Afterwards, I cramped for about 3 days, and bled for 6 weeks with my first and 8 weeks with my second. That should have triggered that there was something wrong, but my OB insisted that I was just a long bleeder.

3) How did it affect your body (e.g. your period, your body, etc.)? With the first, it regulated me quite a bit. I had long cycles prior to my first D&E, and then went to clockwork 28 day cycles. As for my body, I had 4 miscarriages total with 1 LO in between. It caused a ton of scarring in my uterus called Asherman's Syndrome. I had to have surgery to remove the scar tissue in order to conceive my current pregnancy. My OB said I was just having "bad luck." Be in tune with your body, and make sure you press if something doesn't feel right. I do want to say that I'm an outlier and most people don't have my experience, but if you do, make sure you get the answers to your questions.

4) How long did you have to wait till you could TTC again? We waited 2 cycles after each D&E, 1 cycle after each of the other two natural miscarriages.

First of all, I so very sorry for your loss and for the loss of everyone on this thread.
1) Which D&C procedure did you choose and why? Would you have chosen differently? I chose to have a D&C done at my local hospital;. I found out I had a blighted ovum (like you) at 10 weeks which was the week before school started again. I couldn't risk miscarrying in class and I just wanted it to be over with.
2) How was the D&C process? What about afterwards? The D&C process was fine. I was really worried about going under general anesthesia but everyone there was so kind and sweet to me and made me feel comfortable. By the next day, I was out walking my dogs. I had some cramping and medication for it, but I don't remember the pain being remarkable. I bled for about 5-7 days after and I recall the bleeding to be fairly light/moderate.
3) How did it affect your body (e.g. your period, your body, etc.)? AF didn't come back until about 6 weeks after the procedure. Most women I know were at 6 weeks. It felt very healing to have my first post D&C AF because I was no longer in limbo.
4) How long did you have to wait till you could TTC again? My OB wanted me to wait 3-6 months to TTC again and, upon questioning further, she said 2 months was fine. I did a lot of my own research, talked to other doctors and friends who have had D&Cs and found there is really no reason to wait that long. I waited until my first natural AF (6 weeks after the D&C,) we NTNP that month and I got pregnant again. I am now 23 weeks. In other words, I had my D&C on August 11, first period September 26 and found out I was pregnant again mid October. Of course my OB scolded me when she found out I was pregnant again but the positive ultrasound didn't lie.
Other info:
When we first found out it was a BO and not a MMC, I felt relieved. Relieved that I didn't lose a baby (well, I did, but at the very early cell division level.) But, in the end, it hurt just the same because, in my mind, it was a baby and not an empty sac. I was very depressed and avoided all things baby and pregnancy.
In other words, allow yourself to feel your feelings. They are truly and completely valid. I am so sorry for your tremendous loss and I hope that you have lots of support around you.

@Alivoo01: How are things going? I thought I'd share my update since I had mine yesterday morning. Hoping for the best for you!

1) Which D&C procedure did you choose and why? Would you have chosen differently? I had a "suction d and c" I'm actually not sure if that's different than a regular d and c or not.
2) How was the D&C process? What about afterwards? From the time they took me back to the OR to the time I woke up in recovery was 20 minutes. I had to fast that morning and arrive at the hospital an hour and a half early to get checked in, change, get the IV started, and meet with the doctors. By far the weirdest part was the hospital chaplain came by and had a terrible beside manner. She seemed like SHE was going to cry, while my husband and I have known about and grieved the end of this pregnancy for 2 weeks. They have a program that is very sweet where they bury miscarried babies at a local cemetery free of charge. For us, we didn't feel like it was right for us since we never made it past a 6 week gestational sac. It felt so awkward telling her "Thanks but we'd rather not." I wish I'd had a heads up from my doc or a nurse that was coming so I could have been less flustered by the conversation.
3) How did it affect your body (e.g. your period, your body, etc.)? One day out in still so sleepy and a little woozy from the anesthesia and meds but I always react like that. No pain and very minimal bleeding.
4) How long did you have to wait till you could TTC again? They told me after my period comes back I'm good to go.

@Alivoo01: I'm so sorry. My OB did warn that a BO could still cause an increase in HCG. I hope you get your answers soon and can start to move forward.

@Alivoo01: ah ok...I think that's actually a very normal number for 1st tri, so that doesn't help much I hope this is resolved soon for you.

@Alivoo01: The way that it was explained to me was that a D&E was a dilation & evacuation by suction (a little bit less invasive because they're sucking everything out rather than cutting it out). The D&C is a dilation & cutterage where they actually cut everything out.

My doc went the D&E route because it's less likely that scarring in the uterus would happen. Apparently my body didn't like any of that and scarring ensued anyway which caused multiple future miscarriages. Like I said before, just be in tune with your body and raise the question if you have any prolonged bleeding.

As for progesterone, my RE let me know they were looking for anything over 10. Hoping that this process moves along quickly for you,

@Alivoo01: I'm so sorry to hear about this. I had two miscarriages just like that between my two kids. I had a D&C with my first b/c it just didn't want to come out with help with a pill to help dilate my cervix. With my second one we tried the same method and it came out naturally. All was fine both times and I was about 6-8 weeks with both. My D&C was quick... within 35 mins I was done and recovering and was home in a couple of hours resting. I bled less and not for a very long time afterwards. However, my periods started to be REALLY heavy from then on. I soaked through the thickest maxi pads within an hour with my first period after my miscarriage. With the second one, it wasn't painful with some Advil during the dilation (from cramps) but I knew when it came out. A few bigger blood clots and it was done. I bled normally afterwards; but my period became pretty heavy again afterwards. Not as heavy as after my first miscarriage but more than before I got pregnant the first time. I'd say it wasn't particularly painful physically as it was emotionally.
