@whenoceansrise: That's awesome!!! Just for warning, you may get more sore in the upcoming days. Day 3 seems to be a growth spurt for some babies and they nurse a LOT. Even I was sore after day 3 this time around and I'm pretty used to it!

@FaithFertility: my baby girl was sooooo sleepy as a newborn since she came early and was jaundice... She prob would sleep forever if we didn't wake her up to eat!
@whenoceansrise: glad to hear things are going so well!

@FaithFertility: welcome! I'd definitely wake her if she hasn't woken up yet. They need to eat every 1 - 3 hours the first few weeks, it also helps with your supply. :).

Does your baby actually CRY to eat in the middle of the night? R just sort of starts grunting and making noise and trying to get out of his swaddle so I just feed him then. I know that eventually in a few weeks or so he will start actually crying I'm just curious if any other babies do this? He does cry at other times for food and/or when he gets changed.
pomelo / 5660 posts
@winniebee: she has cried maybe 2 times her entire life. Normally she just fusses and I get up because she's due for a feeding.

@BandDmommy: pumping is hard work! are u building a freezer stash? I'm not pumping yet. I pumped way too much with T in the beginning and my supply was out of control and hard for him to handle. So I will wait a few more weeks to pump unless I need to.
pomelo / 5660 posts
@winniebee: yes, working on freezer stash. I've been pumping about 3 - 4 ozs a day. I started pumping two days after I got out of hospital.... And I already dread it

@whenoceansrise: @faithfertility: yay for new moms and babies on this board.
@BandDmommy: I'm going to start pumping once a day... So far I've pumped a couple times and I quit after 5 minutes, 20 minutes does not sound like fun. I got my smaller shield today so hopefully that helps.
@winniebee: Ethan usually just fusses at night and I get up, the past couple days he will cry though... My pediatrician said today that babies find their voice and will cry more after the first couple weeks. Yay for that. Less sleep for me! He was going 4 and 3 hours at night but is now up every 2.
Our ped. Also recommended today to give gas drops every feeding (Ethan has been fussier BC of gas). And we are starting the vitamin d drops.
E had a great 3 week check up today. Up to 8 lbs 9 oz from 6 lbs 11 oz.

Oh and I should be napping right now with E and husband and yet I can't fall asleep so on here and watching Days of our lives instead, lol.

@josina: that's a great gain - congrats, mama!
@winniebee: I think C is just finding her voice now at 5 weeks tomorrow. She's been a really calm kiddo so far, but over the last day or so she's been more vocal in her opposition to the snot sucker or her desire to be held. I'm also wondering if she's hitting her first wonder week. I didn't put much stock in them with L, but we're right on target for the first leap.

@winniebee: E cries, but mostly only squawks here and there to let us know that she needs food now (or else...) or is cold. at night, she rarely fusses, just wiggles and grunts and snorts until I wake up and feed her.
@banddmommy: yep, i'm pumping once a day too to try to build up a freezer stash. usually about 30 minutes after the mid-morning feed, and i get about 5-6oz. i started the first week home from the hospital...towards the end of that week.
i had an appt last friday morning, so my mom watched the girls and gave E her first bottle of pumped milk. She took it like a champ. She also got one over the weekend while we took DD1 skiing.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@winniebee: On normal days DD doesn't really cry.. She stirs and makes noise. She only really cries when she had her fussy days.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@BandDmommy: I pumped a few times but only the one time where I missed a nursing session I got 2 oz from both sides. I tried a few more times where she only nursed on one side so I pumped the other side, but didn't get much. I'm trying not to sweat it... My #1 priority is to keep up our nursing relationship, I don't plan to start seriously pumping till after 1 month, but it would be nice if I can out away a few oz here & there!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: It should~ I ordered the smallest possible and I got 2 oz out of both sides one time so far so I know it works! And daytime TV is so boring!! But I'm also not glued to the TV THAT much to start binge watching something on Amazon prime or something.

@KayKay: That's awesome! I'm hoping I will be able to increase the amount I'm getting.

@BandDmommy: i figured out that pumping in the morning definitely yields more than the afternoon (evening can go either way), and that it helps to chug a LOT of water throughout the day. i knew both of those things the first time around, but had forgotten what a difference it makes.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: Logan is the same. Lots of grunting and rooting around. He only cries if he gets ignored for too long!
@BandDmommy: I tried pumping today, but didn't even get half an ounce out total. I'll probably try to keep doing it though to increase my supply. Plus I need a freezer stash for when I return to work.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@BandDmommy: yes definitely you have the most milk in the morning so try pumping then instead!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
I feel like Logan's latch on my right side has gone to crap. It New hurts when he nurses on hat side. I don't get it. His latch ws fine for the first couple weeks.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: ahh no! Maybe try repositioning him?
@BandDmommy: K had been cluster feeding since late afternoon into evening.. I hope it doesn't go into late night!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Adira: oh man. Can you have an LC check it out? In considering going next week Bc I think Ryan's latch isn't always seal right and I think he is taking some air and getting burpy/ having more spit up.
@BandDmommy: we have been feeding from 4-10 hourly every night since we got home from the hospital a week ago. I'm so tired by 10!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Wow - I didn't realize all the typos in my last post! Damn auto-correct!
@snowjewelz: I definitely try to reposition him, but I just can't seem to get the same positioning on my right side as I can on my left. And now I think my nipple is bruised.
@winniebee: I do think Logan doesn't always have a good seal too. I hear a clicking sound when he nurses on that side, which indicates a bad seal I think. It didn't hurt before, but now it does - maybe it just took a couple weeks of abuse for me to notice it? I might have to see an LC if I can't fix it myself, though I KNOW what to look for and what a good latch looks like, so I don't know why I can't get it right right now!
Girls, I want to go to bed, but Logan's been asleep for over two hours, so I just KNOW he's going to wake up soon! But I'm also afraid if I wait him out, tonight will be the night he sleeps for four hours...
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: ugh I give up trying to time her bc I never know when she wants to sleep for 4 hrs and when she decides to cluster feeds!
I kinda want to go back to LC too to talk about weaning from nipple shield, but I'm so lazy about it! I don't want to go out haha.
Any of you had your 2 wk pp check up? Mine is tomorrow
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: haha, I hear you. I wish we had LCs that would do house visits!
Are you referring to an appointment for YOU or for the baby? I don't have a postpartum appointment until 6 weeks. But Logan had his two week well visit on Tuesday.

We are home, my milk is already in, and my poor husband is having to do most of the work as I'm recovering from the c section. i can't wait to be able to walk and get in and out of bed without pain!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@whenoceansrise: Yay for being home!! And don't feel bad about your husband having to pick up the slack. You just spent 9 months cooking that beautiful boy and you.just gave birth to him AND you are doing the hardest part now of nursing him!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: for mamas! I have a 2 wk pp appt.
I know LCs that do home visits but I don't know if my insurance would cover it!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@whenoceansrise: pray for a smooth recovery for you! I bet your DH enjoys it! I think mine is jealous that I am feeding DD 99% of the fime! He loves taking care of her.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: Do you also have a 6 week postpartum visit? Or just the 2 week one? I only have a 6 week one. I think I'm expected to be all healed up by then.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: sorry you're having pain . I feel like j had a great latch and now it's sort of deteriorated on the left! He's 3.5 weeks old and I'm sudden having pain on that side again. I'm trying to be super careful about his latch on that side rather than messing around on my phone, etc. hoping we can fix it!
pomelo / 5660 posts
I feel like our 4 am feed will be dropped soon. She has a really good feed at 1 am and then a super shot feed at 4 am. It's kinda like, what was the point of waking up for a 5 min feed? Our 6 or 7 am feed is legit though.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: I have no clue! I didn't know the norm is to go at 6 wks; I was told to make it for 2 wkd
