When you host a party at home, what is your biggest bang for your buck (but easy too) go-to decor.
I dont have time to tape a million streamers up individually or make a tassle garland. I wouldn't mind spending $20 but want it to be well spent on something that will make an impact.

@looch: So we are pushing our dining room table up against a big blank wall for the party. I have a table cloth (navy blue). What do I do on the wall? How would I mount fabric?

Paper bunting. It can be easily made and covers a ton of space. And is super cheap.

@T.H.O.U.: I would do tacks or if the fabric is light, that sticky poster "gum."
Do you have time to get something delivered from fabric.com? They have tons of cheap options and you can filter by color.

@T.H.O.U.: Use the navy tablecloth and buy a small piece of cute contrasting fabric to use as a runner. You can cut the remaining fabric into triangles with pinking shears and string it up to match. Then go to the dollar store and buy some balloons and plates that match the colors. My Dollar Tree has helium balloons and will fill them for you, so perhaps you can have them blow up the balloons too. Grocery stores with a floral department will also do that.

"Floral" arrangement on the buffet. You can use spray painted twigs or pin wheels or anything else that adds height and color.
Balloons tied behind your pushed back table would fill up the blank wall. The geronimo style balloons or paper balloons make a big impact.

We did balloons and a felt happy birthday banner from target for LO's first birthday. I plan to reuse the banner for future parties.

I def vote balloons and an at home helium tank. I got worried that my decor was gonna suck but we had polka dot balloons in four colors and it was pretty festive looking.

A birthday banner! They are always a hit and can be reused. It's surprising how much little kids actually enjoy them. And adults too...I would love a good birthday banner for my birthday.
That, and balloons, table cloth, and coordinated napkins.

@T.H.O.U.: we used plastic tablecloths to cover the wall - cheap and they easily went up with some tape! Great way to add color!

balloons, plastic colored table cloths (hang them, put on tables, cover counters, etc), colorful dessert plates, Tissue paper "balls, poms, garland"
$1 store serving ware - clear plastic bowls, trays, and cake stands

A balloon banner, no need to fill with helium. Blow up several colors of balloons and "sew" them together to make a backdrop. It makes a huge impact and cost like $5 bucks for the balloons!

For DS's baptism, I made photo garlands - it was three pieces of dot garland (mine was from Pottery Barn Kids, but you can buy them pretty cheap on Etsy), $12 worth of photo prints from Walgreens and a package of those tissue paper Pom-poms from Party City. The photo garland is easy - I just taped the photos onto the garland and hung it on the wall.

Great ideas in this thread! I will shamelessly admit that for a recent bachelorette party, I paid one of our babysitters $20 to make two tassel garlands. She actually only asked for $15! They were a great statement, reusable and for $20, it was worth it!
