Deleting Profile

I'm curious if you request that your profile be deleted, do your old posts get deleted along with it?

Help @mrbee

EDIT: Going to delete this thread at the request of the OP. We'll closing it for now and will leave it up for the rest of the day, then delete it tomorrow. - Mr. Bee

@babyjmama: I think it will say deactivated user but the posts stay?

@babyjmama: I'm under the impression that your account just gets shutdown, not deleted. But you can change your posts to not be viewable from your profile so that people won't be able to just see all the posts you replied/started.

@babyjmama: When you deactivate/shutdown an account, the old threads/posts stay up... but we can change the name of your account before shutdown as well, so that your old profile page doesn't show up any more.

Your profile page would be accessible at boards.hellobee.com/profile/new-username though, if someone clicked over from an old comment/wall post.

Let me know if that answers your question!

@babyjmama: I really hope you aren't thinking of leaving.. because then I will have to stalk you and that is awkward.. for all involved.

@mrbee: if you change the name of the account does it show the threads made under the old name? You just have to know the new username to access it? trying to see the benefit in changing the name prior to deleting?

<< if you change the name of the account does it show the threads made under the old name? >>

@coacheswife123: If I changed my username to "misterbee", then http://boards.hellobee.com/profile/mrbee would stop working. But http://boards.hellobee.com/profile/misterbee would now work.

<< if you change the name of the account does it show the threads made under the old name? You just have to know the new username to access it? trying to see the benefit in changing the name prior to deleting? >>

Yah exactly, you'd have to know the new username - usually by finding an old comment or wall post, and clicking over.

Let me know if that answers your question!

Keep in mind you can set your list of posts to private, so if you really didn't want people to see the stuff you had posted on previously, before having your account shutdown, just update your profile.

@Adira: Ah sorry, actually that option only appears for gold bees... and gold expires when someone deactivates their account!

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@mrbee: Oh, I didn't realize that! So once your account is deactivated, your posts will be viewable to everyone?

  14. mrbee

    admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts

@Adira: Your posts will be just as viewable or not as they were before? We always leave all gold posts as private forever, both on the main boards and on walls.

The only thing affected would be the list of posts in your profile...

  15. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@mrbee: That's what I meant - the list of posts in my profile. The list of posts in my profile would now be viewable by everyone if I deactivated my account (whereas currently they are only viewable to those logged in)?

  16. mrbee

    admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts

@Adira: That's a privacy feature for gold bees... we usually expire gold when someone deactivates their account, and either issue a refund or gift it to someone else (if requested).

We could always leave the gold on the deactivated account? But then the person would have to re-up their gold every year... unless we changed it so that if someone was gold when they shutdown, somehow the list of posts was still private. If you'd like to see that, please post to the suggestions forum!

@mrbee: Will do! Thanks for the clarification!

@mrbee: Everyone will eventually outgrow this site at some point in their lives. I think paying for gold at some point should grant them the option of keeping their post list private even once they move on since there are not really ongoing costs to the site of keeping that list hidden.

@Adira: Please let me know whether or not you plan to post this in the help section so I can either agree with it, or post it myself if you don't plan to.

@MamaMoose: This wasn't something that has come up before now, so it's not something we had thought about. It does sounds reasonable though, so it's something we will look into when we have a chance.

@MamaMoose: I agree. I'm not sure if I would keep paying $$ for gold to keep posts private. Maybe if there were some sort of lifetime gold?

    And,by lifetime I don't mean $$$$
