What do you all think about this? I may be missing something (and don't mind being told so!) but I think it's overboard and not all that helpful. I feel bad for the drivers. Anybody deleting Uber because of this?

Nope. I read about it and decided I don't buy into the hysteria. It seems the CEO has been fairly critical of Trump but wants a place at the table for developing policy. I don't necessarily agree with that, but it's a clear power grab, since Uber has been shut out of many cities by the taxi association lobbies and I don't fault the company for advocating for themselves on that front.
As far as breaking the taxi strike by turning of surge pricing. I'm on the fence about that.

We really only use it for travel, but will continue to use it unless more information arises - I agree with pretty much everything @Anagram: said.

I did! I don't use Uber so this just reminded me I should probably delete anyway - they exhibited some bad behavior and tried to get around local regulations and then left my city (Austin), leaving drivers high and dry.
Lyft did the same thing in Austin but I'm keeping them for when I travel. I use local services now when I'm home.
I agree this particular movement seems way overboard. Liberals (and I am one) can be way too much of an angry mob with pitchforks sometimes.

No, I will not be deleting Uber. Regardless of how you feel about the president and/or his actions, Uber drivers are just people trying to make some money for themselves or their families. Maybe the extra rider that an Uber driver picked up at LAX gave the driver the little bit of extra money he needed to pick up a pack of diapers on the way home to his baby late that night.

I'm not deleting Uber. But I really appreciated Lyft's donation to the ACLU, so I do plan to use them if given a choice between the two. I rarely use either so not a huge issue for me.

@hummusgirl: I don't live anywhere near there and didn't hear about that. That sucks. I've never tried Lyft before.
@Anagram: Yeah they probably should have not tweeted anything.

I'm not deleting Uber and Uber Eats- it's just too convenient.

I don't use Uber, but I wouldn't delete them.
Uber is working to identify any of their non-citizen employees that are affected by this ban and compensate them pro-bono for the next three months if they are stuck outside the country and cannot return to work.

Uber has also vowed to create a $3 million defense fund to help cover the legal funds for drivers who are affected by Trump's ban.

No. I don't use it at home. I do need safe reliable transportation when I travel and I've had problems with Cabs. I use Lyft too.

@2littlepumpkins: I dont use uber but you really shouldnt feel bad for them. They knew that the cabs were protesting and tried to undercut the cab drivers making a point about the travel ban

I deleted Uber in a fit of rage in 2014, when one of their executives suggested that the company could employ opposition researchers to dig up personal information on critical journalists. I've used Lyft since and haven't looked back. I'm fortunate that Lyft provides equally good coverage and service in my area (I've noticed most of my drivers work for both companies anyway). If I had to go back to cabs, deleting Uber would've been a much tougher thing to do.

@MsInformation: yep, uber has been problematic for me even before this and for other issues.

I did, and deleted my account. I'm a much bigger fan of regular taxis anyway and have been for a while, for a host of reasons.
